I have responded to 3 large brush fires.

In Marley a large brush fire destroyed a garage.

Another brush fire was in a recycling plant in Pasadena. That went to two alarms.

Just got back from another fire in Lake Shore. The fire completely surrounded two dwellings. Almost lost a house but luckily protected both.

Over 450 pictures too go through.

Did you check out the fire on 648 and/or Woods Rd?

They are requesting aerial resources from MEMA on the Odenton Fire.

So I should be listening for helicopters?

fire fighters coming in from Arkansas to help with the fires

http://www.tv3winchester.com/home/headlines/Park_Service_Bringing_In_About_100_Firefighters__116538883.html

TV3 has learned that the National Park Service is bringing in about 100 firefighters from as far away as Arkansas to help battle the wildfire in Warren County.

Right now, the Department of Forestry is working with the National Park Service and fire crews from throughout the Northern Valley to get a handle on the 300 acre fire.

Fire Chief Richard Mabie says, high winds are making it nearly impossible to control, rather they are working the perimeter to stop it from spreading.

He says, they are using tractors on the North End to flank the fire.

Mabie estimates winds at 35 to 40 miles per hour near the fire. He says, they won't be able to get ahead of it until the winds die down.

Has there ever been a wild fire day like this around here. Does this add to the long list of freak weather events in the DC area over the past 18 months? There certainly hasn't been another day like this since i've lived here since the late 1990s.

Explain - where on 198? A little unclear there.

Sorry, I did not catch the nearest intersection. They did not have any units ready to respond asap, but were able to sift resource and get a engine over pretty quickly. So far I have been able to catch units from Harford, Kent, Carrol, Caroline Counties in Anne Arundel helping out.

cnn's description of the xmas tree downing is humorous

While the cause of the tree toppling is yet unknown, the National Weather Service issued a “High Wind Warning” for the DC area Saturday noting that, “heavy wind gusts between 25 and 60 mph” were expected and supposed to be at their strongest right around the time a tipster told CNN the tree was downed.

Still a ton of mutual aid units coming into PG County, including a pretty good size task force from DC. Sounds like things are still pretty hairy down there. Fires were moving so fast earlier, a Brush Truck from the Baden VFD was burned up, and an Engine from the Beltsville VFD had to be moved very fast before it was lost.

winds will die off pretty fast by morning. at least it's not a continual deal. it will be interesting if we dont get any precip of consequence as we move forward but green up should change the dynamic a bit at least.
