DCA: 44 (1/2 an hour ago) IAD: 52 (1/2 an hour ago) BWI: 48 (1 1/2 hours ago) If IAD is already hitting 52mph and the best winds aren't expected until 10am-5pm I would think they won't have much trouble hitting at least 60. BethesdaWX
wow...fookin crazy! PERIODS OF FREQUENT GUSTS IN THE 50-60MPH RANGE...POSSIBLY AS HIGH AS 70MPH IN ISOLATED LOCALES /ESPECIALLY AT HIGHER ELEVATIONS/ EXPECTED AS THE AREA...ESPECIALLY THE MIDDLE PORTION OF THE CWA. Although this has been really underperforming so far IMBY, I am in the "middle" of the CWA, so, who knows.

With Dulles recently gusting to 52mph I'd say that the winds are just fine for now. Seems on track to me. There wasn't supposed to be 60mph gusts at 8 in the morning. Bob Chill
Too bad the wind couldn't hold off until Tuesday morning. Blizzard warnings are cool. Looking at all the reported obs it is interesting that the highest reported gust on the Chesapeake is only 32 last hour. I fish alot during spring trophy season and there are many wind busts during April. The relatively cold waters of the bay during that month make it hard for westerly winds to mix down to the bay surface. I guess the cold dome of air on the bay pushes the wind up and over. I remember going out in many forecasted SCAs for SW-NW winds only to find near calm conditions in the main stem. The getting back to dock on the W shore, winds would be howling. Pretty cool effect and great if you like to fish.
