Eskimo Joe
Johnstown, PA (KJST) now reporting heavy snow. That is a serious band setting up just to the SW of State College and whoever gets in that will really cash in.

Use WGAL radar here, it's not virga, the precip shield just hasn't reached us yet. Keep in mind that State College and Sterling radar ''see'' the precip higher up over York and Lancaster counties. WGAL is the ground truth. http://www.wgal.com/live-radar/5027054/detail.html
MAG5035
Looks like the initial gradient is setting up in a line going WNW to ESE such that Altoona sees heavy snow and State College gets nothing for a few hours. Any observations out of Altoona? Curious to see how heavy the snow is there. Good closeup radar centered around State College: http://www.meteo.psu...P/animauto.html Yea its snowing hard down here. i just came back from a trip to Altoona to do a couple things. Then I came on and looked at the radar and was really surprised the gradient that set up between there and State College. It's workin on it though, and snow should get goin soon. I have 1.25" of snow already. It needs to hit more than 3.7" for it to become the #1 snowfall of the season

Have to wonder what his reasoning was into deciding to leave. He has been there over 30 years, it's hard to imagine him up and moving to another weather venture. MAG5035
This is fascinating to watch, or extremely maddening depending on what side of the edge of the snow shield your on. You can see the dry, cold northeast flow in the scattered echoes up north in the radar hole and its muscling the leading edge of the snow attm to a stalemate in far southern Centre. Looks like Jamie should be startin to see flakes. State College should finally get in on this within the next hour.
