It's tryin to snow here, some flakes mixed in with my sleet. Just a hair too far south. Although if i can stay in some heavier precip the snow might score the coup for a bit. It's def not far off. Looking at the webcams, I-99 from Port Matilda on thru State College have snowcovered roads. And the ones near Clearfield are def worth a look as well.

Yea and judging by the soundings we may do well with ratios once things get cranking. Starting to shape up out there in the middle of the country. I got a nice foundation going for the new snowpack, prolly about a half inch of snow/sleet and a glaze of ice on the trees and colder surfaces

I-99 is awful from Tyrone up - one of the worst drives I've ever had on that road. I had trouble keeping 35 MPH at times.

Oh wow thats something. I seen from the traffic cams in Altoona that there isn't even really any kind of a coating on the ground and roads are wet. is it primarily snow from Tyrone up? and how much is on the ground up in State College?

Wish I was back by you guys right about now.

It's trying ever so hard to flurry here in Long Beach, Long Island but it's torturous and our dry air is eating this alive so far. We'll get ours later overnight but esp. from maybe Rt. 22 north look to get smacked for the rest of the night. Finally an overperformer!!

It was amazing. It was 34 and raining when I left Altoona. Once I got to Tipton, there was pretty heavy sleet and the road started to look icy. It was pretty much a mix of snow and sleet from there, coming down very hard. Past Bald Eagle was where it really started getting bad -- it had been a while since a PennDOT truck had gone through. About an inch of snow and sleet on the road that just was constantly trying to grab your tires. It did go to primarily snow past Port Matilda, but even here in State College, some sleet is mixing in at times.

From what I can tell, there is a crusty inch or so of snow here in State College. Snow and sleet coming down at a good clip.

Yea that stretch between Bald Eagle and Port Matilda can be an adventure. Having worked at PennDOT 5 summers when I was in college I know that the stockpile in Bellwood covers I-99 from 17th street to just before the Centre county line, while there's a stockpile past Port Matilda going toward Skytop on the the old road that does the other part and then I think on up over Skytop. That stretch is on the edge of both, so it can take awhile. Although you'd think given the carnage up there from the last event, they would've had some folks camped out up there.

Snow is slacking off and the flakes aren't looking as good.

Still sticking with 4-7" forecast. IPT-Potter Co. should see over 7".

trust me the heavier precip is headed your way! What a surprise this storm ended up being, this one is def an overproducer or at least for northern pa. I wouldn't be surprised if some parts around here come out with double digits

Hey MAG, what time do you think the storm ends, 8AM? The back end of the precip looks to be approaching Detroit soon

It looks like judging by the surrounding radars that your currently at the height of the storm and should be seeing whatever kind of insane heavy snow your seeing for perhaps another couple hours before maybe lightening up. Clevelands radar looks a bit more broken up and should translate to more of a light to moderate snow regime for the rest of the overnight. The worst is probably going to be done by 8am, but it probably lingers longer than that. You gotta love the setup, its the classic northern PA mauler.

yeah your right, this hour is definitely going to produce the strongest snowfall rate, the end of the heavy precip is in site. The rates will probably shrink back down to .5-.75" and hour and then eventually tapper off.
