Anyone got a loop of radar last night? I went to bed early, no idea if I got anything from rd2?rd3?

You'd know if you got anything like what came through Arlington around 11 to midnight!-- there was some exceptionally loud thunder. I love thunderstorms but even I was about ready to hide under the bed. I'm not sure anyone could've slept through that.

Got about 1.5" of rain out of it though; I think the garden is happy this morning.

The dog decided that he didn't like the loud cracks of thunder and kept us from getting any good sleep until after midnight. I don't have anything saved, but the most distinct radar item from around midnight last night was a little bow-like segment (w/o actually being a bow-like storm) that was about as long as the Beltway is tall, and it ran from maybe just S of Tysons to S of Burke, moving east. Would have bypassed north Arl/McLean/NW DC

After waking this morning to a wet yard, and several friends saying we had a thunderstorm last night I checked the archived radar on WxUnderground. I know that when we went to bed last night there was lightning in the distance but we all fell fast asleep as a pretty good storm moved through. Kind of ticked we "missed" it. But glad for the rain it brought. The grass is already looking better.

I'll have to check with the wife to see how the dog handled it last night. He's not a fan of thunder, and has a bark that could wake the dead (when he decides to use it).

Hmmm...if Mrs. J and mitchnik both had TSRA from round 2, I probably should have? My son fussed in his sleep around 1045pm and I went into his room and thought I might have seen some lightning flash, but I heard no thunder and went to sleep right after that.

Wunderground archived radar makes it look like I got some rain, but mostly fringed by the good stuff.

A quick photomerge (3 pics) looking west-southwest from I-270 & Shady Grove Rd. in Rockville. This was toward the end of the storms. I'll have more to add. This is just the first.

for reference, the lights on the far left edge in the distance, that's Reston, VA. Yes...you can almost see the plains landing at IAD from here. The light streak is a plane.

A CG shot.

A call to the head office is certainly in order!

How do you get shots like these like these are amazing.

nice lightning shot jason

Thanks bud. JasonS PM'd me about using the pic on CWG. I said sure.

It's been a slow build up of experience, equipment, but mostly just the push to go out when opportunities arise, and constantly searching for places to take pictures. The spot I used last night is probably a limited on as it is a fed gov bldg's parking deck. No restrictions attm, but I think the agency is still moving in...so gates and such just aren't installed yet.

With the SmugMug acct. I believe you can see the meta data easily...which is a good guide for camera settings. You do need an SLR or similar with manual settings.

Add: Try this link, it should bring up the full album of the photos (I've uploaded a few more since this morning).

Noticed that...

I usually wake up if there's a big boomer, especially with the window open, though. No way we had anywhere near 2" IMBY. I got fringed by the first round during the early evening, but then had a decent shower move through later. I'd say probably closer to 0.2" plus whatever little bit from the stuff near midnight.

Amazing what a difference a few miles makes.

Looks like I'm getting double whacked today. First cell just went through (barely anything). Now the cell is growing....svr warned outta Frederick, MD. Might run over to the Park real quick, for quick pictures.

Where are you?
