Never would i give up the next 6 weeks for that.. April snow doesn't last. It's fun while it's happening and then it's over and spring, and folks like Ray tiptoe thru the tulips in their tongs and thongs As great as that event was you could only enjoy it for a day, I had 25 inches and didnt even bother to shovel my driveway since we both had 4 wheel drive and warm weather was forecast soon after. My driveway was down to pavement in 3 days.
moneypitmike
Just got back from Easthampton. Man is it a different world up there. Tomorrow I'll be in Pittsfield and then Lenox We were right at the base of Mt Tom ona sales call. Does anyone know the elevation of the old Mt Tom? I think it's about 900 or 1000'. Fun place to trek around. I used to live in e'hampton. 17.5/10 Edit: 1200 per wikipedeia

radarman
GC baby. Where women look like men, and men look like women. Easthampton ≠ GC I wish I had GC's climo And actually the women out here are much better looking than back east... Unless you like 'em like this- to each his own I guess

tamarack
How does blue, wet snow that all fell with temps of 31-32 turn into windblown powder in a matter of 3 hours? All kinds of snow blowing around here...does it just magically turn into powder after having high water content? Unless ithe snow has turned to slush (in which case it becomes cement), cold dry air sucks the water out. I once saw 2" of 32F wet snow produce drifts to 6'; of course, it took NYC's strongest ever December winds to do it.

ski MRG
Should have been home in the NE hills. 4 inches was common all thru NE CT and NW RI up to ORH. We had more than GC and some of the Berks You did not. 4.5" here and still snowing (as noted in Box's headlines snsh will persist). I looked at Box's PNS and Tolland was showing 4". Even pittsfield in the valley had 3.5 as of 4AM and they continue to get snow. Also, Plainfield had 4" as of 9am (smack dab in the middle of GC) and it's continued to snow there all day as well. I know you want to think you're in the same league down there but really you can't compete with the big boys.lol

Of course between the end of the main snow and the advent of the cold air, it was like letting the air out of a balloon. But you're right.....snow showers have persisitedn(actually coming down pretty good attm). Impossible to measure anything though with the winds ripping. Top gust still 33mph. 15.5/

ski MRG
GC baby. Where women look like men, and men look like women. Ok, that's 2 strikes today. MRG is a good example I would have treated you and whatever dorky sales partner you're being dispatched to Lenox with to a nice lunch but after that comment forget it. Try to go home through the high terrain, Lenox and Pittsfield are valley towns. Try Rt.9 from Pitty to Noho. Too bad, I go to very nice restaurants, would have been a good lunch. HoarfrostHubb
Temp is plummeting. Down to 20.1F... 5*+ in a little over an hour... I was just shoveling the walkway and steps. The temp drop (got to 33.0F here) has made the snow from today turn into styrofoam chunks. Rips right up in 2.5" boards. Easy to throw. Not sure if I will tackle the driveway with the Crapsman... would prefer to leave it be.
HoarfrostHubb
It is cool that CT has over 80" of snow in early Feb... really remarkable for the torch capital of SNE (Concord, NH is the overall king there)
Clinch Leatherwood
Btw If you didn't see the paper posted on this forum re 1978 it's great. Most interesting to me is that the lfm in 1978 was able to forecast 500mb low positions to within 60 miles at 36 hours. That'd be a coup for the nam in 2011. We've lost the fourth of our 5 doors following a roof shedding on Saturday night. As it is now, the "walk way" from the back door to my now unshoveled driveway is actually a shoveled path about 2' off teh ground. I think I'll cotninue to shovel fresh snow that falls onto that. That's it until Spring. I guess if we get events greater than 6", I'll crank of the snowblower for the driveway, but I'm hanging it up for now. It's one of those great nights where the mesomaps are way behind in capturing actual temps. 14.6/
