How do you like the epic GFK snirt piles?

Ugh I HATE THEM, we have way to many ugly snow piles covered in dirt and sand. Also the drifts that were formed all winter long caused way to many areas with barely any snow and have made me see way to much brown ugly grass from the warmup than I would like in febuary. I hope the next few storms clobber us and we don't thaw til april then we can hit 80 and get wiped away by the flood.

We had blizzard conditions in southern Manitoba early in the evening. It's still pretty bad out there. HWY 75 from the US border up to Winnipeg is closed.

Haven't received much snow. Only and inch or two. Huge drift already on my driveway, though. LOVE....THIS....WEATHER!

Nice band of snow showers pushing through GFK. Those snirt piles could use a coating of fresh snow. I see a lot of gusts into the 40s.

GFK is down to 13F, winds NW 28 G 37, must be some areas of blowing snow. How much was left on the ground following the warm spell?

Temperatures look to go back to typical Northern Plains values with 10/-1 tomorrow and 12/1 on Saturday.

There was plenty of snow left over but it is now frozen solid, it had a crust on top so wasn't blowing around. The snow that just blew through probably dropped about 1/2-1" of snow that was blowing like crazy we had blizzard conditions for a little while there. It's settled down now with the wind still gusting pretty good. i guess i'm going to have to wear a coat tomorrow but no complaints it's better than the warm weatherthumbsupsmileyanim.gif

I was just up there visiting and there was a ton of "snirt" (snow-dirt) which was all icy and ugly looking. Typical weather for them is returning though--but it was a nice torch for us all after being in a prolonged deep freeze.

another great snowstorm forecast for us here in Brookings, SD. Possibly the biggest of the season. This has certain been a great year to be living here where I'm at. Good snow, a nice warm spell to melt half of it, and then another storm to pile it back up again. Should make for a good river crest in the spring too as it didn't really warm up enough to really get the water to the major river, the Big Sioux at least north of Moody County.

Come to think of it, last winter was a great winter too, with high river crests. Last summer had near record rainfall everywhere, and in the town where I lived until November, I was in a thunderstorm which produced some wind damage which I'll link pictures too here in this thread. That was one amazing storm to sit in the garage watching. It knocked out power for 2 days though.

We had a rain event during the summer which caused the big sioux to crest slightly higher then the spring crest where I took the flooding pictures, and near record levels. I really wish I would have gotten pictures during that summer flood, but I may get another chance this spring.

summer storm that caused rivers to surge, and there were previous storms that helped too. The town I was in the process of moving from was particularly hard hit with rain. Good for those new trees. Some of this may be hail enhanced, but most is not.

It is going to be a big one for Brookings, no doubt. You may see some thundersnow too. Going to be a crazy storm out there.

Saw a nice season-opening hailstorm today while in Wichita...dimes for about 8-10 minutes, covered everything nicely.

I was leaving town as that Oklahoma supercell was cranking...you could definitely see it to the south and it had a superfly anvil.

I am excited for this potential event now that I am in North Platte. Euro still N but it did look as if the ensemble mean was S of the op closer to the GFS/GEFS.

welcome back baro, wish you great success down in N. Platte. Euro op drives the L right over me so would be mixing issues or just rain for time...euro mean at day 7 looks to be just nw of green bay.
