Hoosier
As we move through the back half of winter and approach what could potentially be quite an active spring in terms of severe weather, I thought I'd share these links about SPC categorical risk climatology. This is pretty neat...it shows the average annual number of outlooks for a given area across the country during the period from 1990-2008. One thing that surprised me a little bit is the area with the greatest number of high risks - eastern KS/northern MO/western IL. I wouldn't have guessed it would be there. Perhaps more frequent storm coverage/capping concerns farther south and west? http://www.patricktmarsh.com/2011/02/spc-slight-risk-climatology/ http://www.patricktmarsh.com/2011/02/all-spc-moderate-and-high-risk-climatologies/
Ellinwood
Some more thoughts in the ST thread: http://www.stormtrack.org/forum/showthread.php?26587-SPC-First-Moderate-amp-High-Risk-Climatology Really interesting stuff... glad Patrick took the time to do it and the best of luck to him in finishing his thesis.
