William, I thought you were in agreement that, considering how climate patterns shift and how small our dataset is, that its quite possible it could happen :P And we have 3 years from the 1800s when, according to records it did happen. Of course, the climate isnt the same now, so who knows. But who knows if we might be headed that way again.

I'm not familiar with these "unofficial" records...I'd have to read up on them.

Well, one of the winters was from the early 1800s mentioned in Don's book. The other two were mentioned in the Pennsylvania weather book and one was in the 1830s and the other in the 1800s.... it mentioned 100" in Philly and NYC and constant snowcover from around Thanksgiving to the end of March. I'll get you some links in a minute, I know you love historical weather as much as I do :P

It's a pity the winter Don S mentioned was in the 1860s, it was only a few years before official records started being kept.
