Ed Lizard
Went outside 15 minutes ago, a couple of rumbles of thunder, felt a few drops, not enough to even dampen the street or sidewalk. Tornado warnings, except for high cloud bases, LCH morning sounding might have favored tropical funnels, but they usually remain aloft, best of my understanding. Ed Lizard
Just based on a juicy LCH sounding, and expected ~30ºF T/Td spread, not to mention possible precip loading with almost 2 inch PWs, I posted the LCH sounding and my thoughts of some possibly impressive pulse severe today. No real wind in the column, storms will dump into their own inflow and die, but I think they could rock and roll during their brief lifespans, and maybe we'll get a boundary moving into the (weak) mean flow constantly firing new cells as the old cells peak then die. Ed Lizard
Not as juicy as yesterday. BTW, wonder what is up in the nearshore convection. Landbreeze generated? That could bode well for sea breeze storms later. The less juicy sounding may be reason for HGX thoughts of storms being more isolated today, before disappearing for another week (or more.) On second thought, viewing satellite, that appears to be some kind of feature, with another weakening feature approaching Louisiana, which could be in the vicinity just past peak heating. Ed Lizard
Eyeballing that next disturbance approaching Louisiana to get here just after peak heating, and it should probably fire storms just before peak heating in Western LA/East Texas and they have a moderate chance, in my opinion, of surviving here before loss of heating. Ed Lizard
Sort of falling apart. I think there was an upper disturbance (darned subtle looking at 500 mb and 700 mb model analysis, ie, I couldn't see it, but it does seem to be there on IR) helped by a boundary, and now that it is sliding away frtom SETX, storms becoming more isolated, and eyeballing loops again, the next subtle feature over New Orleans is creeping this way, and will arrive after dark, and may pass by without fanfare.
