99F was the highest I saw for IAH...a new record passing the 97F of 2008. Am I missing something?..

http://weather.noaa....rrent/KIAH.html

i think that says it in the max temp column.

ob history says 100F

http://www.weather.gov/data/obhistory/KIAH.html

but i first saw it when HGX posted it on their facebook page

Another record breaking day may well be on tap and then chances of scattered showers look to increase just a bit for Coastal TX. It was nice to see echos in far SE TX last evening for a change. I stand corrected, msp. I missed that 100F ob somehow while cooling off in the pool.;) E-mail from Jeff:

High temperature records fell yesterday and it looks like they will fall again today.

High yesterday of 100 at BUSH IAH is the earliest 100 degree day in the history of Houston. The previous record was June 10, 1902 (109 year record). Strong high pressure ridge remains parked just northeast of the region providing subsidence aloft limiting cloud cover resulting in strong surface heating. With the very dry grounds that heat up quickly, see no reason why most sites will not go into the upper 90’s to low 100’s again this afternoon and likely on Saturday also. Very warm weather and drought tend to go hand in hand and the current historic drought in progress is starting to be realized in our record of temperatures.

With the extreme heat by late afternoon, a few isolated thunderstorms may be able to develop mainly east of I-45 similar to yesterday afternoon/evening. These storms will be isolated at best and most locations will not see any rainfall.

Upper ridge attempts to shift a touch north of the region Sunday and Monday and this will allow disturbances on the southern side of the high to rotate westward into SE TX from the central Gulf coast. Given the extreme drought in place will go no greater than 30% for both Sunday and Monday…these rains will likely be scattered so some will see some rain while others will get nothing. Best chances will be near the coast and east of I-45.

Upper ridge builds back into the area Tuesday and that will effectively end rain chances.

Drought:

BUSH IAH has gone 129 days without .5 of an inch of rainfall in a signal day. The previous record was 93 days. Rainfall departures across the region are now averaging 15-23 inches. It is very likely the only weather system strong enough to upset the ongoing drought is a tropical cyclone and given the very large rainfall departures it may require two hits to bring enough rainfall to break the drought. Until this happens we will continue to cook nearly every day with the very dry ground allowing highs to reach the upper 90’s to near 100.

High temperature records for yesterday:

Bush IAH: 100 (old record 97 in 2008)

Hobby: 98 (old record 97 in 2003)

Galveston: 94 (tied record from 1953)

Victoria: 99 (old record 97 in 1938, 1916, 1913)

Another hot day on tap for the Lone Star State. There is some glimmer of hope that Sunday/Monday will offer a chance of isolated showers/storms for Eastern and Coastal areas before the ridge rebuilds S and shuts off any rain chances.

And the long rang doesn't look any better, esp. up this way. I am glad we had an exciting spring up here in N. Texas but I feel really bad for y'all. Good luck getting a few storms in over the next few days.

Left over clouds from shower/storm activity over Louisiana may keep temps down just a bit. The good news is moisture in the mid/upper levels rotating underneath the Ridge and above a TUTT low in the Western Gulf should provide for at least a chance of isolated showers/storms through Monday. Monday may be our better day for seeing those rain chances increased. Fingers crossed!

Only 20% now, but HGX mentioned nowcasting higher pops if something does go, and suggested temps pushing 100ºF and high cloud bases could produce severe wind gusts.

Haven't seen moisture levels that deep on a local sounding in a while.

Should we annex Louisiana? Storms firing early over S. La and looks like they could develop into some nice ones this afternoon as they head W.

That may well be tomorrow's activity for E/SE TX. Perhaps we could include Louisiana in our discussions. There are a couple of members from that area and maybe they would become more active? We would become a very large region with that addition.:D

They would be a lot better if the NCAA would have not left LSU out and put us at one those sites!

If there are any posters from the DFW area can you please IM me. I am being relocated there later this summer and have some questions regarding weather and areas to live. Thinking Colleyville right now, liked it when I visited. Thanks for reading.
