Hey you guys in SW Missouri, how long did it take you all to saturate the atmosphere? I know the radar has snow over me already, but I know most of this is going to be virga for the next 12 hours or so.

I'm still waiting.

St. Louis had an aviation update and said they didn't expect anything other than flurries at St. Louis as even drier air was present.

Ah yeah. I'm on KY/TN line, so I'm expecting more than them. I'm just really worried about the dry air but oh well. Hope you guys get nailed through the night because that would be good for me but it sounds like dry air is a common theme for most people. Good luck!

04z HRRR snow accumulations. It develops a band along OK/KS border and then develops the heavier snow south of Tulsa.

Definitely interesting to see how the different versions of the RR are handling the storm differently. I'm not expecting a lot of action here until at least 3AM local, just based on the modeling. Even if our overall accumulation doesn't end up very high, we should get some pretty good snowfall rates for at least a couple of hours.

1:14 a.m. update:

An area of moderate to heavy snow is located north of a line from Fayetteville, AR to Tulsa, to Stillwater. The snow is moving east. North winds at 15-25 mph are causing blowing and drifting snow. Heavy snow was reported earlier in Kansas. Wichita set a record snowfall for the day Tuesday with nearly 7" of snow. Hutchison and Newton, Kansas both saw over a foot of snow. The snow will continue to build south as we go through the night.

We just saturated the atmosphere... snow falling at a pretty good clip. Roads already white.

.DISCUSSION...

/ISSUED 0130 AM CST TUE FEB 8 2011/

POTENTIAL INCREASING FOR HEAVY SNOW TO IMPACT PORTIONS OF

SOUTHEAST KANSAS AND SOUTHWEST MISSOURI. HEAVY SNOW CONTINUED TO

DEVELOP ACROSS NORTHERN OKLAHOMA AND SOUTHERN KANSAS WITHIN REGION

OF COOLING CLOUD TOPS. SNOW WAS INCREASING WITHIN DIFFLUENT FLOW

ALOFT IN ADVANCE OF A POTENT SHORTWAVE COMING OUT OF COLORADO.

HEAVY SNOW BAND WAS FOCUSED WITHIN REGION OF STRONG THETA-E

ADVECTION ON THE NOSE OF 40-50 KNOT 700 MB JET.

LATEST RUN AND HIGH RESOLUTION MODELS DEPICT THIS HEAVY SNOW BAND

TRANSLATING EAST INTO EXTREME SOUTHEAST KANSAS AND FAR SOUTHWEST

MISSOURI BY WEDNESDAY MORNING. GIVEN THE INTENSE SNOWFALL RATES

OBSERVED GREATER THAN AN INCH PER HOUR AND HIGH SNOW RATIOS

FORECAST ACCUMULATIONS HAVE BEEN INCREASED MAINLY ACROSS FAR

SOUTHWEST MISSOURI WHERE UP TO 8 INCHES APPEARS LIKELY FROM NEOSHO

AND ANDERSON EAST TO BRANSON.

THEREFORE A WINTER STORM WARNING FOR HEAVY SNOW HAS BEEN POSTED

FOR NEWTON...MCDONALD...BARRY...STONE AND TANEY COUNTIES.

LATEST MESOSCALE MODELS SUGGEST EVEN GREATER SNOWFALL TOTALS ARE

POSSIBLE. THIS WILL BE MONITORED CLOSELY FOR POTENTIAL INCREASES

TO SNOWFALL TOTALS AND FURTHER EXPANSION OF THE WINTER STORM

WARNING.

It got light here for awhile now its picking back up again. Probly around 3.5-4" out there now. I really didnt expect to see this much the way springfield was talking earlier tuesday evening. Another over performing event lol. Right around 33" now for the season since november. Not bad at all considering....I was thinking this was going to be one boring winter the way things were going

2:13 a.m. update:

The heaviest snow band continues along and north of US-412. We are starting to see snow move in from central and western Oklahoma. We will see snow area-wide for the morning rush hour. North winds 15-30 are really blowing the snow around, and it will be tough to get accurate measurements. A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect for all 77 counties in Oklahoma.
