Hoosier
So I'd be interested to hear some met theories on what led to this debacle. Originally I was thinking that perhaps some data didn't make it in when part of the system was over Mexico, but the models were still playing catchup well after it left. Perhaps the intense/relatively compact nature of the upper level circulation was just tough for the models to resolve?
toronto blizzard
That's caused by the dry air. Returns on the periphery of the radar scan are going to show up, but not near the core when the precip is only aloft. It's sometimes called the donut hole effect. Actual snow is falling per obs on a London-Hamilton-Niagara line. Heavy snow now being reported in hamilton
Organizing Low
my theory poor steering flow gave the models fits no high pressure in canada whatsoever no blocking in the northern lattitudes, confluence was also overmodeled energy proved deeper and stronger, and throw in gulf wave in a nina and SE ridge (no NAO)....voila....amplified. AppsRunner
About to pass the 4" mark here. Impressive to say the least going from <1" to 4-6" in forecasts less then 36 hours before the event.

buckeye
looks like us folks in central OH should get into about a 1.5-2 hour band of heavier snows before this ends. Maybe we can nail a fresh inch on the tail end here. concillation boobie prize

SpartyOn
Detroit Radar telling the truth on this system. I have not seen a dry gradient this pronunced in a very long time. Pivot is changing direction of the precip.

Powerball
Why do you guys always get slightly less? is it the topography of your area? I'm not sure to be honest. I originally thought it was topography or water, but the downriver areas (where michsnowfreak is) doesn't usually underachieve and they have lower elevation than we do in NE Wayne/SE Macomb County and they're closer to the water. I would love nothing more than to solve this mystery. In any event, other than the initial heavy burst, it has been mostly a steady spitting of fine flakes here.
