You must have gotten into that heavy front end band. I've just had a steady 1" per hour here.

Yep...that good 700-600 mb frontogenetic band set up overhead early this morning. Probably the largest dendrites I have seen since the Dec 15/16 2007 18" thundersnow event. Otherwise, I would not have done all that great with this event.

4" just measured here in Columbia City, IN. It looks like atleast another 2-3" to come yet this afternoon. I love these surprise snowstorms because there is no room for disappointment from days of model watching leading up to it! These are the best!

Yeah, I've been watching this storm for like 36 hrs! :arrowhead:

Are your thoughts still 2-4" for us? What does the latest RUC model show?

Both RUC/HRRR have been pretty steady keeping us in the 0.25-0.50" zone (but based on the spatial distribution, I'd say we're a tad closer to 0.25" than 0.50"). Should be good for 2-4". But if we get into any banding, who knows. Maybe we can tack on a little more.

UPDATE

UPPER LEVEL LOW CENTERED ACROSS FAR SOUTHERN INDIANA APPEARS TO BE

GAINING SOME SPEED AS IT APPROACHES MID/UPPER LEVEL GREAT LAKES

CONFLUENCE ZONE. BEGINNING TO SEE SOME WEAKENING OF DEFORMATION

BAND ACROSS NORTHEAST ILLINOIS/NORTHWEST INDIANA...AND EXPECTING

THESE LESSER SNOWFALL RATES TO OVERSPREAD WESTERN PORTIONS OF THE

FORECAST AREA OVER NEXT FEW HOURS...AND EASTERN PORTIONS OF THE

AREA DURING THE MID TO LATE AFTERNOON. LARGE LAYER OF WEAKENED

STATIC STABILITY FAVORABLY LOCATED WITH STRONGEST VERTICAL MOTION

FIELDS HAVE OPTIMIZED THE RESPONSE TO THE MID/UPPER LEVEL

FORCING...WITH SEVERAL REPORTS OF 1 TO 2 INCH PER HOUR SNOWFALL

RATES. EARLIER THIS AFTERNOON...GRAVITY WAVE ALSO APPEARED TO

ENHANCE SNOWFALL ACROSS WEST CENTRAL INDIANA INTO SOUTHEAST

PORTIONS OF WFO IWX FORECAST AREA. FEW LOCATIONS ESPECIALLY ACROSS

SOUTHEAST PORTIONS OF THE AREA MAY APPROACH STORM TOTAL AMOUNTS

NEAR 6 INCHES...BUT WILL CONTINUE WITH THE WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY

FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE AFTERNOON FOR WIDESPREAD 3 TO 5 INCH SNOW

TOTALS.

Nice update from IWX, found it interesting to see them discuss/reference the "gravity wave"
