I tried the past 2 days, any input from folks on a certain type of salt vs another type? As this continues, and there is, in my mind, a chance for something Sun/Mon it could be very interesting in terms of snowpack.

we distribute both plain rock salt and ice melter...use plain rock salt...ice melters you purchase at stores are a "watered down" version to state it simply...they are easier on new concrete but don't have the melt factor that plain old rock salt has...we only use ice melter on newly constructed commercial accounts worried about spalling of new concrete....

Unofficial measurement taken on top of the glacier on my back deck shows 3.5" so far in Pendleton, IN. Checked a few other places and it's all pretty much the same. As far as I can tell we should continue to get snow for the next 3-4 hours. So much for 2-4".

this is the salt i use in Canada following FRZRA events with skating rink driveways.....i spread it amply and daily, and it works even in -15C conditions....albeit slowly......with warmer temps, its can do the job pretty fast. i dont know how thick your glacier is.

Thank you very much. As crazy as this sounds, I think i'll put the blower on top of-ride the glacier, blow off the snow, then lay the rock salt down, and hope for tomorrow's sun to help. Would you agree on taking the snow off, eventhough traction may be an issue?

get as much snow as you can off - sun is your friend for sure...looking at 100 tons in dump trucks outside my bin right now...picked a great day for deliveries...good luck !

not alot of complaints this year...nickle - dime events have been damn good to us...most big ones have gone north past few years...

I see/pay the invoices for the snow plowing here at my place of work. December wasn't pretty for us...good for you plow people...but have yet to see the January bill. Let alone what the Feb bill will be... :yikes:

its been a long time coming up here....lack of snow is what drove us into the synthetic turf business 6 years ago...you think you got it bad...we have a large company up here that owes us $288,000 right now(just for snow)....which is like $5 to us normal people.... they are making some serious loot...weird account.. we have a job trailer there - we have people there before first flake hits...have to shovel in between about 1000 cars, walk people to cars...etc - great account - safety freaks !

Yeah we're small potatoes compared to that figure. Jesus...

Wow! You've got that much in Warsaw? I thought that you might be a little too far NW for the good stuff. Congrats!

I know...talk about a surprise. I'll take it. Up to about 4 inches now and still a steady snow...although not as heavy as it was between 8:40 am and 10:15 am when I picked up 2.5" of my snow.

You must have gotten into that heavy front end band. I've just had a steady 1" per hour here.
