nzucker
Isnt this what happens when energy moves into a confluent flow? Well it's clearly the PV that shreds it, so I guess yes. I'm just surprised such a strong shortwave doesn't hold its own. Apparently the Euro is a torch in the long range

Apparently the Euro is a torch in the long range Think back.. I cant id the exact dates, but weve seen stronger waves than this get absolutely shredded as they come east... No energy it seems, no matter how strong, can survive strong confluence.. It shreds the best of them.. I often marvel, usually in great disappointment, at the great potential that gets simply damped out! Really frustrating as we watch are beautiful potential storms just waste away
nzucker
Actually doesn't look so horrid on the 0z ECM as I thought it would...we keep the PV oriented over Quebec/Labrador which delivers occasional cold shots to New England, and then the -AO starts redeveloping although the Pacific looks miserable for the most part. Still not a total torch though.

ski MRG
2-4 tonight followed by cold temps. No complaints. 15/13, 3-5" on the way tonight, nothing but highs in the upper teens/low 20's lows AOB zero through the week. No loss to the tremendous snowpack this weekend, skiing is fantastic, ice is exceptionally thick. All this and the thread went to sh*t lat night bemoaning the fact that "everything has changed" lol. I haven't thought for one second that the overperforming theme of this Winter will change. GFS now hinting at a muted warm up at best and some storm chances indicated. I'm so glad Vim Toot made it official that I'm part of CNE because I wouldn't want to live in a region where people whine and proclaim Winter over on Feb 7th. How utterly silly. Damage In Tolland
Well 3-5 looks like a reasonable call tonight/tomorrow. I'd expect WWA to go up with the 4pm package

This looked like a 3-5" possibility for the past 36 hours at least, That is going to be delivered followed by a week of sub-freezing. I will concede that the epic pace that we had been may well be done. B-U-T........there's a heckuva spread between 'good strong winter' to epic. I'm not sure how much of SNE is done by meteorological spring, but for most of us you can tag on a couple weeks beyond that with reasonable possibilities a month or so beyond. moneypitmike
ALY's discussion calls for 3-6 for the northern two thirds of its CWA, 1-3 for the southern third. Sounds about right. 1--3 should be enough for CT to close schools. Winter marches on!

Back around the holidays I said I thought we were about to enter a period when the storm threats came at us with a stacatto rythm. This is a brief interlude before that resumes. A brief interlude with 3-5" of snow and cold.lol I suspect it won't be long until were back under the gun. It really is a matter of perspective I guess. If I were looking out at bare ground and had temps in the 40's maybe I could be tricked into thinking Winter was on the wane but fortunately I don't have that problem. In stark contrast, I feel like we're just past the halfway point and looking good. I should desist, however, as I don't want to ruffle any feathers.lol I think we'll end up with a top 5 seasonal snowfall here, already over 100" with many ower elevation areas of the Berks in the 80-90" range. Lot of Winter left to go.

Unless you consider a shoveled driveway bare, don't think any folks have that. Hell,, the streets aren't even clear in GC. AISB.
ski MRG
LOL at Messenger's posts last night You can tell he's been spending some quality time with his lawn tractor. Probably starting it up, taking it to the end of the driveway, turning around, driving it back into the garage. Late nights honing blades, tightening belts, repacking wheel bearings. Took the Jetta to the B'east yesterday and the road from here to there is mostly snow and ice packed, so much fun to drive it like a winter rally car. I think they have bare ground down on the Cape or at least close to it.

I think I have a legitimate shot. These warmups will be short lived with deep low level cold often lurking.

Crazy times. If this was November and 2-4 was forecast, we'd have 30+ in here and a few would've pulled all-nighters. Nowadays we just throw these small ones back to let them grow. 26" on ground, 2-4 tonight, cold temps in short term ... all good things.
