peribonca
Outside this geographical range but I was in Montreal for the Jan 1998 icestorm (more like 5 icestorms back to back). Don't think I'll ever see anything like that again: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_American_ice_storm_of_1998 Only a cat 4/5 hurricane could rival that for me. winter_warlock
the best i ever seen so far as snowing the hardest was the pres day storm of 1979, at the height of the storm, the thundersnows produced 3-4 inches an hr, and i remember i was 12 at the time, and i woke up about 2 in the morning and looked out at the streetlights, and wow, the whole street was lit up, it was snowing so hard i couldnt see the houses across the street, amazing, and you know... to this day weve had many blizzards since, but i still havent seen it snow as hard as it did then:)
str8liner
Experiences are always dependent upon location, and I know that for everyone March 93 wasn't the unbelievable event that it was for some, but in my mind I don't think I will ever witness an event that can compare with that one. 93 was the only time I ever sat in the house during a snowstorm and actually was afraid for my safety. The wind was incredible. It blew so hard that night you didn't want to fall asleep. I remember in the 96 and 2003 storms the snowfall rates were so high we couldnt keep up with the plowing and shoveling. As soon as we got done, we had to start all over. 2003 was a 3 day Marathon cleaning up afterwards.
Yeoman
naso fast..if PD II didnt have a warm layer...we would of got 35-40 inches. The record will likely break Big coastal storms dumping this much precip very rarely stay 100% snow like the 2/5 storm, even out our way.. I stand by my statement. I agree--- there was that second surge of cold air that came in late day Friday-- the first HP actually slide due east off the VA coast.
BethesdaWX
FEB 10th, 2010 was absolutely insane. I don't ever recall seeing anything as extreme as I did that day. How often does the DC area see a foot of snow with 50mph winds......this on top of a 30" snowpack from 3 previous storms? For tree damage, snowmageddon was king, made the 1999 ice storm look like nothin. I couldn't measure "SnoverKill" properly, the snowboard I was using ended up blowing off the table during the deform band that ripped through, but there was at least a foot of new snow. Radar was amazing, that small pocket of heavier snow just sat over SW bethesda.
