Saw a post that JB is already calling this the potential storm of the century. Can anyone confirm or deny?

Yup he has a post out calling it that...just saw it. The title reads

"IS THE REAL BLIZZARD OF THE CENTURY COMING NEXT WEEK AT THIS TIME AND WILL A SLINGSHOT WARM UP FOLLOW THE WEEK AFTER?"

Don't know what to take from it though....on that site, everything is "....of the century", "....of the millenium", "....to remember", "....coldest since the big bang" etc. etc. etc....

Potential for something big is on the table but being a week out, man, can you say sensationalism?

A little blurb from JB:

I am talking the ohio valley) and the march 1993 storm , the situation late next week has similarities with the northern branch supplying a tail that becomes the southern branch., which then comes out and phases with the northern branch. This has happened a couple of times this winter, and in fact happens quite often ( 1996 was a case too) but this time the mean trough is back further west than it has been for any of the eastern storms this winter.

im worried that we've lost you to summer.

i guess i couldnt blame you.

No way, i'm a weenie and will be watching each and every inch but yeah i wouldn't mind going right to summer at this point. As long as something anomalous is going down it's all good. You certainly won't hear me complaining about not getting a major storm for another 20 yrs or so.

I'd love to see another system just like we had. I've got one hell of an ice rink going on my street.. You can actually ice skate on it..

NW trend back in full effect!

Just took a look at some ski resorts back in Oregon, and Chicago almost has much of a base as some of them back there.. :arrowhead:

Good luck with that! I know I wouldn't be able to keep that promise.

I hope there isn't a chance--I'm worried about what another storm will do for urban flooding come Spring. Racine/Kenosha have enough for a while. We can let OV in on the fun.

I dont think there is a chance at all (maybe, maybe slight) that WI will be affected by this, which is perfectly fine. This seems like a OV storm the whole way.

Another jinx (I vow to do this everytime a post like this comes up). It just makes me feel better and I am very supersticious (sp?)!

I’m not a huge fan of the idea snowpack directing storm tracks business outside minor shifts, but there’s a pretty wicked SW/NE snowpack graient at this point across the center of the country, I wouldn’t be surprised to see the dominant baroclinic zone set up somewhere in the region, especially with the pattern in general becoming more nina-ish. In the end, it will be it will be a timing and strength issue of energy too far down the pipe to really know how it will evolve that dictates major shifts.

I think DC area deserves it more then OH/KY does, but that's for another thread.

I agree with Alek in terms of the baroclinic zone setting up somewhere in the area. Who knows, but at this point it looks like a major storm will happen somewhere in the country. Probably not to the extent of the last storm, but still could produce 8-12 inches+ if everything comes together right.

The whole deserving thing is silly imo but if you want to go down that path, I don't know how you could say that after what DC got just last year.

silly yes, but most of all, boring.

Meh, they've gotten screwed big time this winter. NYC/PHI has gotten crushed, while they haven't had a big storm all year tbh.

But for the OH posters to say "they deserve the last laugh" "they deserve this storm" etc, it's just plain stupid.

A storm is going to do whatever the hell it wants. If it's going to cut to Minnesota, it's going to cut to Minnesota. To keep saying they deserve this storm, storm after storm, it's stupid
