Woke up to crappy snow growth and a scary radar...but just read GYX AFD and got happy. Not sure how that translates into SNE but wow are they enthusiastic for this afternoon up here. We are seeing much better snow growth up here now with moderate to heavy snow.

AREA FORECAST DISCUSSIONNATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE GRAY ME356 AM EST WED FEB 2 2011.SYNOPSIS...LOW PRESSURE WILL APPROACH FROM THE SOUTHWEST TODAY...SPREADINGSNOW ACROSS ALL OF NORTHERN NEW ENGLAND. THE LOW WILL WEAKEN THISAFTERNOON AS A SECONDARY AREA OF LOW PRESSURE DEVELOPS IN THEVICINITY OF CAPE COD. THIS LOW WILL THEN SHIFT EAST INTO THEMARITIMES EARLY WEDNESDAY NIGHT. A RIDGE OF HIGH PRESSURE WILLBUILD IN FROM THE WEST ON THURSDAY AND WILL HOLD THROUGH FRIDAY.LOW PRESSURE OFF THE MID ATLANTIC COAST WILL TRACK NORTHEAST ONSATURDAY PASSING SOUTHEAST OF CAPE COD AND SHIFTING INTO THEMARITIMES SATURDAY NIGHT...BRINGING ANOTHER ROUND OF SNOW TONORTHERN NEW ENGLAND.&&.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 PM THIS EVENING/...NEGATIVELY TILTED UPPER LOW IS NOW LIFTING ACROSS ILLINOIS WITHSTRONG WARM AIR ADVECTION SPREADING ACROSS NEW ENGLAND.PRECIPITATION IN THE FORM OF SNOW...SLEET...FREEZING RAIN...AND RAINIS SPREADING ACROSS THE EASTERN SEABOARD AS VORTICITY MAXIMA NEARSAND DYNAMIC FORCING ASSOCIATED WITH A 160+ KT JET INCREASES. SNOWHAS ALREADY BEGUN TO FALL IN NH AND SHOULD SPREAD TO NEAR A EUSTISTO ROCKLAND LINE BY 7 AM AS THE SYSTEM MOVES NORTHEAST.SNOWFALL WILL BE HEAVY TODAY...WITH VISIBILITIES DROPPING TO AQUARTER MILE FOR MUCH OF THE DURATION...MAKING TRAVEL DIFFICULT.SLEET MAY MIX WITH THE SNOW THIS AFTERNOON ACROSS SOUTHERN NH WHERESOME WARMER AIR WILL BE MIXING IN ALOFT. ALSO COMPLICATING THESITUATION WILL BE WIND GUSTS OF 20-30 MPH...CAUSING BLOWING ANDDRIFTING SNOW.IMPRESSIVE 800-600MB FRONTOGENESIS FORECASTS FOR THIS AFTERNOONINDICATE SOME BANDING IS POSSIBLE ACROSS PORTIONS OF COASTAL ANDINLAND NH AND MAINE. IN ADDITION...THE NAM SHOWS SIGNIFICANTNEGATIVE EPV OVERSPREADING THE AREA THIS AFTERNOON. THESE FACTORSWILL HELP INCREASE OVERALL SNOWFALL TOTALS AS WELL AS HOURLYSNOWFALL RATES IN THESE AREAS...WITH RATES AS HIGH AS 2-3 INCHES PERHOUR AT TIMES. WITH LAPSE RATES INCREASING TO NEAR 7.5-8 C/KMTHIS AFTERNOON...THUNDERSNOW IS ALSO NOT OUT OF THE QUESTION.TOTAL SNOWFALL AMOUNTS WILL BE IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD OF 10 TO 15INCHES BY THE END OF THE DAY...WITH LESSER AMOUNTS ACROSS FARNORTHERN NH AND MAINE. THIS WILL BE A MESSY DAY...AND STAYING OFFTHE ROADS WILL BE PARAMOUNT IN KEEPING ACCIDENTS TO A MINIMUM.

You might be right... dryslot issue will be more of a concern than changeover IMHO, at least here.

I had originally been hoping for 10-13" total between the 2, so I'm good.

Its not doing anything right now here. Im guessing we will get some pl/zr later? But for now nothing.

People might wake up thinking the main event hasnt started when its actually over. :lol:

3.4"/9.9" total here. Might be the final.

The qpf issues popped up in the ruc and hrrr runs pre midnight but it was hard to bite on it so early.

So who got what for snow? Seems like Harv had a good handle? Channel 7 though probably moreso.
