HailMan06
The school district closed school for the day because of the ice so everyone can stay home (which I think is a smart move) starting to get a little concerned about losing power with each wind gust causing some branches to break Driveway and sidewalks are a sheet of ice so can't really go anywhere But at least I got my heaters and hot chocolate to last me for the day
scottynic
.25 to .3 of ice here...roads not all that bad..driveway sucked something terrible though...
gkrangers
It is cause of Amtrack (which is cause of power problems) Right but are they ice related power problems...
benfica356
Right but are they ice related power problems... yep. Still waiting on any word from Kean to cancel school (was in a delay till 11 since yesterday)
Sundog
Total ice with yesterday's amounts is about .4 - .5 inches. That's a solid hit of ice. If you touch the snowpack it's a solid mass. Whatever rain falls today with temps barely above freezing won't even melt the ice that fell over the last 36 hours, let alone hurt the snowpack. EasternLI
I see Upton went with the ice storm warnings after all.......Not for nothing, but in a situation like this that should have happened yesterday.
Drz1111
Like everyone else in the five boroughs, I have a substantial ice accumulation on the UES, somewhere between 0.33 and 0.5 inches. Glad it's turning to rain now, because the trees are fine.
LocoAko
Seems to be only about 1/3" of ice here in New Brunswick which is of course nothing to sneeze at but perhaps we missed the worst of the ice just slightly. Everything's coated and now there are huge piles of liquid water everywhere not making it any easier to get around outside...
FPizz
Starting to melt here too. Right around freezing temp wise. Lots of ice out there.
Sundog
On another note, Cunningham Park in Queens (fairly large wooded area) looked incredible while driving through it this morning.
psv88
about .4 ice accretion in central nassau...trees looking great, my steps and walk to outside are awful. was slidin down my driveway while scraping the ice. Lost power for 2 hours last night, just got it back. My street is completely ice covered. Not a fan of ice.

LocoAko
Just heard Bill Evans on TV say that there are reports of 2" of ice in NW NJ. Why do I not believe those....
tmagan
Took me a half hour to get the ice off the car.
Stormlover74
Probably 2" of combined snow, sleet and ice but highly doubt 2" of ice accretion Just heard Bill Evans on TV say that there are reports of 2" of ice in NW NJ. Dark Star
Driving was fine from Central Union county to eastern Union County in New Jersey this morning at 7:00 AM. Not one storm sewer has been cleared. Luckily, it looks like the bulk of the rain should end soon, or flooding may become a problem.
SnoSki14
This is by far the worst ice event I've experienced in a while, it took me a half hour to chip away my car. I'm worried about damage from the tree branches because they are completely caked in ice. Any wind could cause more branches to fall today. I will gladly trade an ice storm for a snowstorm any day because this is just a dangerous pain.
Guest Patrick
.55 of ice accretion here in Clifton

West Milford Highlander
Exactly - up here we are at about 1.5 inches of that combination - side roads are a mess but once you get on highways and a bit further south down route 23 not too bad on the main road - just got to work in manhattan - have to take it slow. Took a little longer than usual obviously but nothing too crazy up here like people were worried about. Probably 2" of combined snow, sleet and ice but highly doubt 2" of ice accretion
Alpha5
Somewhere around .5 of ice here, tree branches are really showing it...some have already broken and there strewn across the roads. Hovering around freezing with the storm about to end
EasternLI
Temps here 37.5 ....I would think around 40 for me today at best, especially considering water temps aren't really any warmer then that

Alpha5
Just measured around .65 of ice here Branches are down and the untreated roads have a ton of ice on them, nearly impassable.
gravitylover
A little over .5" of ice caked on everything. I was up before it changed to freezing rain and we had over 1" of sleet accumulated. Temp now is hovering around 28* depending on how hard it's raining. Heavier rain and it goes up, lighter rain and it drops back down. Haven't seen a plow on my hill yet and nothing is moving. I tried to walk to the corner and couldn't make it up the five foot rise Is that blob over OH/MI heading this way for tonight?
ag3
Close to .5" of ice. Rain is ending soon.
Manny
Man walking to school was horrible, every student walking down the hill to my school almost slipped. Walking to the train station to go to school led me to slip and fall as I crossed the street, almost breaking my ankle, but I'm ok. Yeah, bloomberg should have closed schools. It's bad outside, and with little rain falling, and the storm ending, things are gonna be bad.
NJwinter23
Just heard Bill Evans on TV say that there are reports of 2" of ice in NW NJ. Why do I not believe those.... 2" of sleet I suppose...that's exactly what we have in Hackettstown with otherwise very little freezing rain accum and mostly plain rain now
