daddylonglegs
Yeah...sucks to park outside...we always garage our clunker, so no need to scrape... but my garage is disgusting with all the road salt that has accumulated.

Powerball
Our DGZ right now is at least 200mb deep, which probably explains the perfect dendrites out there right now. Eh, if it keeps up this storm may get a D+ instead of a big fat red F.

Allsnow
What are the chances that this storm will be number one for Chicago? I say very good at the moment... ohare has 19.5 chris....3rd biggest storm on record...snow is pretty much over now..so they will prob fall just short....that being said this was prob one of the most impressive snowstorm in that area....all time

Eh, if it keeps up this storm may get a D+ instead of a big fat red F. Wow, a D+? I do have to ask....I remember you say storm intensity was more important to you than total accumulation. Didnt you get blizzard conditions last evening? For here this storm has to get a B. And thats only based on initial forecast snow amounts. qpf is verifying here, just had that sleet. Driving was a nightmare. Snow is deep and drifty, massive snowbanks. This was not an epic snowstorm here, but it was a major one.

Indystorm
Sorry to hear of your Did something pretty dumb last night. I decided to take a short drive to take in the blizzard and was trying to get back home as the winds hit but came to a road drifted shut. I went to go into reverse but couldn't see the road good and backed right into a 2 ft ditch. Tried in vain to dig out with a box I had in the truck but it was getting buried faster than I could dig. Eventually i had to decide to start walking. I walked 4 miles in 45-50 mph winds and hvy snow/sleet. It was surreal, frightening, and beautiful all in one. Took me from 9:00 to 11:30 to hoof it home. Never once saw another person or vehicle. Have to admit, I can see how the elements could get the best of someone. Like always, though, most lessons that stick with me are learned the hard way, and this was no exception. Now I gotta figure out how to getmy truck out Sorry to hear of your misfortune. Glad you are ok. Yeah, this is one of the risks of snow or ice chasing, just like smashed windshields from hail in storm chasing plus other hazards. michsnowfreak
I notice DTX is not counting the first wave as part of the storm total. I think thats silly, it was the same storm just an initial waa wave. When the last flake flies, looks like as majority of SE MI will be in the 8-13" range for total snowfall Feb 1/2, which really is on the low end of forecast moreso than a bust. Im sure a few areas will have under 8" and a few over 13".
janetjanet998
i think around 9am cst.....it was right after the lake band went through...they got 2 inches in one hour going to be very close to 20... i think they may just pass it... moderate snow reported at 10am still so 1/3 to 1/2 inch seemed possible that last hour plus they will pick up a couple tenths more leftovers today

A-L-E-K
Just got back from an epic walk. Lots of video and pics to upload, coming later. Suffice to say, thundersnow again, 2-3" per hour rates. Skies slowly brightening, might snag another 1/2-1", still moderate snow. Totals somewhere around 20, impossible to say much more than that. If it wasn't for the wind, no doubt we would have soared past 23", but i'd never trade that wind for the extra few inches. I'm sure somewhere on LOTs CWA goes over 23" probably Highland Park towards Buffalo Grove area.

Yeah, this is one of the risks of snow or ice chasing, just like smashed windshields from hail in storm chasing plus other hazards. Yeah, I will drive into just about anything, storms, hail, floods, blizzards. It's just me, no mom, no dad, no family, so i do risky stuff. I'd have never phoned for help and risked the lives of rescue workers, so I guess it was ok. I'm an adrenaline junkie just a little bit. I was dressed for it thankfully. Sampson
Catch a Wave: Don't be surprised if you start hearing a few loud pops here and there. The ants might be doing some avalanche control. cyclone77
Just under 16" total based on numerous measurements all throughout the yard. Average snow depth now a little over 19". I thought our 14" of snow depth we had earlier in the season was not going to be attainable. I was wrong! Gonna go snap a few pics and post here in a bit...
