Hoosier
Especially on my bald head. This is intense with the sleet and wind right now. Definitely would rather have the snow, but this is a pretty good consolation prize. It's one of those bucket list things I suppose. Interestingly still heavy sleet at IND. cyclone77
Just made it home after one HELL of a drive. Whiteout conditions at times in the open country out here. I have no idea how much snow we've picked up so far, but just guessing it's 3-4". Haven't looked at models yet, but judging by the radar the heaviest snow may hit even closer to the QC,. A-L-E-K
Just got home, usual 20 min tops commute took 1.5 hrs. Sounds like a severe thunderstorm warning outside. BARE GRASS. Winds probably sustained 35, gusting to 50. It's absolutely nuts. Going to wait for heavy returns to the south then i'll go out snapping pics and such. But this wind, wow. hawkeye_wx
Wow is it nasty out there. All afternoon the snow has gotten progressively heavier and it's coming down hard now. The wind is bad, too. I haven't seen visibility this low in quite a while. I just ran the blower to clean a spot for a car on the driveway and it really sucked. The wind and snow on my neck hurt. baroclinic_instability
Question for other mets or anyone else. Do you know if there is a source where you can get observed sounding files for BUFKIT? So instead of model soundings actual 0/12Z RAOB in .buf files. KCRG is saying Ottumwa already has 8 inches of snow and thats just going to move up to QC.

A-L-E-K
uploading a quick vid now, we were under only 10-15 dbz when it was taken but it gives you a good idea of the wind, sustained and strong. BowMeHunter
Basically a whiteout in the gust and its not even really snowing all that much. No way they're going to keep some roads open. No way they're going to see when it really starts snowing.
TolWx28
First post here, I'm an air traffic controller at TOL and we in the last hour had a PIREP from an aircraft at 9000' over Hillsdale MI reporting a temp of 5C/41F. Is that warmth farther north than forecast?

Chicago WX
Heavier returns now over me now and it is all heavy snow. No sleet You look good. Seems the sleet line has been pushed off to the south and east. Should absolutely be pouring snow there for the next couple of hours.
csnavywx
KDKB ASOS is pathetic. I'm convinced the vis sensor isn't calibrated correctly. Always shows visibility much higher than it should be. 1 SM? Are you flipping kidding me?

michsnowfreak
Im this blizzard, how do you measure? You just try your best not to over or underdo it. A snowboard is useless, not to mention there is all the old snow on the ground. I took some extra precautions for trying to get as accurate a measurment as possible by clearing extra spots, but its really going to be hard for all in this storm!
