OceanStWx
I just watched someone pull their 4WD out of the garage and get it stuck in a 2' drift. What is so pressing that you could possibly need to drive anywhere right now? Visibility is down to about 200 yards, and the plows are done for the night. natecast
Nope, really don't...in the northeast, you are lucky to see more than a few reporting stations that record true bliss conditions for 3+ hous, while this one okc to det will probably all meet the criteria. Topography too comes into play...the hills in the east will make true blizzard conditions tougher to meet in the northeast. Northeast may get more snow in their storms, however, they cant hold a candle, IMO, to true bliss conditions experienced in the Midwest...look at the vids alek took. I don't remember seeing anything near that intensity in ny. I can guarantee OKC met blizzard criteria....what an incredible storm. Awesome that so many people get to experience it! Chicago WX
Kankakee Daily Journal running continuous updates of the state of affairs there : http://daily-journal.com/archives/dj/display.php?id=467600 The last update: Updated 9:26 p.m.Illinois Route 50 between Bradley and Manteno is closed with vehicles stuck in deep snow and near-zero visibility due to blowing snow. Motorists are being taken to the Hassett Community Center in Manteno, one of three emergency shelters in Kankakee County operated by Red Cross volunteers. "The roads have become extremely dangerous and many have become completely blocked with stuck vehicles," said Lt. Jeffery Blair, interim commander of Illinois State Police at Ashkum. "State Police are currently responding to a large amount of stranded motorists," Blair said at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday. "Heavy snow and high wind gusts have made for white-out conditions. Motorist need to get off the road immediately. Please do not drive. Seek refuge at home, hotels, or warming shelters and stay there until the roadways are safe."
