Arnold214
Hey Ek, did you happen to salivate over the ORD/MDW obs last night? I was actually...about 9pm when i was looking at some data and trying to make a short term forecast for a friend in grand rapids. They got crushed last night. ORH_wxman
"the snow starts sooner, but so does the sleet, unless you have 40 microbars in the sgz". Lol 12/16/07 will forever live in infamy for our SWFEs. The snow did start sooner...but the sleet didn't lol. 40ub in the SG region makes up for some sins. weatherwiz
Huge dendrites have passed, 80/20 snow/ip. Happens everytime when sleet mixes in, big gust of wind mixes down. Met explanantion? then the wind passes. 1.5 new momentum transfer?
ski MRG
I'm obviously referring to mby....I care about your's about as much as you do mine. I know, I just enjoy your 'Oscar the Grouch" type responses.

CoastalWx
I'd be shocked to end up with more than 4" of snow from this round....it's a complete flop and the snowgrowth is terrible. That's why I went conservative yesterday. Quick hitter and that warm layer moving north. I probably was a little too high at first guess..for you, but the lower side of the range will probably work out. My thoughts for here should work out. Arnold214
When are you gonna be around for one of the GTG;s or something for the brews? well i'm thinking i'm gonna be at the conf this summer. Otherwise, i'll likely attend a gtg...especially if its closer to ray or something.

wxmanmitch
50/50 mix of SN and PL now. Warmer air definitely beginning to overwhelm the dynamic cooling here. East slope probably hangs onto SN a bit longer. Usually happens in these setups.
NB-Weather
wow wow wow wow, what happened afternight? Went to bed with a prediction of .20 inches of ice.. woke up with a predicted .84 inches of ice.. So much ice out there right now, never seen so much ice in my life. Yet its not even close to over.. Trees are starting to droop down, same with power lines. .8-1.0 inches of ice will be devastating here.

mattmfm
Funky to watch these bursts, PVD back to all snow. It's not really that snow is holding on for longer than expected, I was thinking 7-8AM changeover, but it all becomes irrelevant when the back edge of the main thrust is going to be through C CT in an hour

I'm sorry, but BOX outta be absolutely ashamed of themselves because that 18-24" call was absolute BS and irresponsible. No excuse for that becuase it wasn't even justifiable. We'll see - that looks like a pretty crushing band about to move through even though it's clearly enhanced by the IP ripping kevin's paint off. Could get another 3-4 inches in the next 2 hours. weathafella
Weenie that I am, I spent the past hour reading the thread from where I left off at bed time a bit after midnight last night. Nice to see things verifying colder. Snow but as others have said, small flakes. Still it is adding up. Temps starting to go up now...22.1 As of late last night, BOS had 67.1. Should be over 70 shortly. Probably 2 inches fell while I was sleeping and it is adding up faster now. If messenger and I have a bet of a flip by 9:30-10:30 but it (snow) simply cuts off at 9:15, who wins? 1993-94 at least for the Pike area was a good analog to use. Very similar to that Jan event but not with the gigantic totals...should end up with maybe 1/2-2/3.

Seems like the impact is pretty narrow on the severe icing down in south and sw ct.
