thicknesses have nothing to do with it.. you can get certain types of precip at or above the so called critical thickness values.. it all comes down to precip rate and physical processes that cause the temperature to drop or rise and the temperature throughout the entire column. if you look at the sounding there are plenty of layers around freezing.. all you need is one shallow layer just above freezing and boom no snow

I get what you're saying and knew that just wasn't thinking.

like i said last night..mid levels always warm quicker than we think.. so whatever time you think.. 2 to 3 hours before that is when you mix.. round 1 is (was) your snowstorm.. round 2 never had a chance to be much for most in SNE.. most in this thread will see sleet and freezing rain... i think an ice storm warning should be issued for all of inland ct

I'd agree, going to be warmer faster....RUC probably has the more right idea.

nashua nh mixes about 1/2 way into it.. that seems to be the border line.. so id go even farther north into that to central new hampshire north where its all snow

I don't go above freezing anywhere until after 15z on the NAM soundings, so I'm not so sure about that.

I just want the event to start so we can't stop reading about how the RUC gets sleet to organizing low, every 45 minutes.

Lol...yeah it will be a battle. I think the precip is going to get in quickly which will help out with the snow. I'm surprised I've gone over to largish flakes with not much on radar...probably some good seeder feeder going on right now. I think I'll rip for several hours at least through about 8am

Don't drink too much...

First few hours the biggest chunk of precip? Some of the tv mets have it winding down/out by 2PM...

TV Mets downplaying...average for Boston is maybe 3-6"

If JGNYK03 is right it's about t-minus 9 hours for a classic meltdown.
