snowwoman
I will ice big time, hoping not to lose power for many reasons, but I really cant wait to see this monster be carved up like a cane tracking over hispanolia, its going to go through the NE shredder, just get obliterated. Enjoy the snow up north, pray for us down south. So how bad are we looking here with the potential (or is it eventual) ice storm in Southern CT? We have had that on off frosty fog/drizzle this evening. Also what time should the precip start?
OSUmetstud
Ok I'm going to duck after posting this but honest truth...THAT HAPPENED IN JAN 1994! We know the verification for eastern NE. I almost feel like blizzard24 ...2 snows good, 4 rains bad......but it's true...this one will impress further south than you think! right...I'm not exactly sure if the warm mid levels near the lakes will translate this way...just figured I'd post it out of interest and something that could throw a monkey wrench in the forecast. MainePhotog
That is awesome, Ray. Think you approach/tie/break it tommorrow? I would think keeping it clear is better, but my temp sensor is buried in snow and ice attm and is identical to a backup thermo and my car one (pretty much). Maybe it delays temp changes? I would clear away the snow. You will def have humidity issues when thaw starts.
weatherwiz
I think some parts of CT (especially where icing is already occurring) are going to see some major issues tomorrow...forecasts are close to 0.50'' of ice accretion...I wouldn't be surprised if a few tenths more occurred as well, especially if things change faster than modeled which is certainly possible in strong WAA events. Still not 100% sure on what to think up this way by getting another 2-4'' of snow (which may be wet) then getting possibly 0.25'' to 0.40'' of ice accretion would not be pretty. ski MRG
Ginx. Are you thinking the CT shore has a fairly serious ice storm? Sorry for not reading back. Exhausted. Thanks for throwing me under the bus Friar.
CoastalWx
Right. Man, this is awsome...I feel like I'm at a ski resort.....just ventured out to the yard stick by the Davis and it reads 30.5".....did a snow angel, walked arund the block and headed in......heaven. There are some shaded spots near 3'. Yeah I'd say protected spots over 30" here too. Nuts. My neighbor's large trash barrel is almost completely buried. ChrisM
But when it makes it as far as you, I'm not that far behind.Probably going to be pretty nasty somewhere close. I honestly thing a latitudinal line just south of HTFD gets some NASTY icing. If the warm layers are too deep, we're seriously fooked. Less sleet, much more ice. AND I WRITE THIS POST FROM NEAR TOLLAND, CT. Not NW CT lol. Confuses the sht outta people.
ski MRG
sorry lol. I'm trying to talk myself out of 3" of sleet. Your plan isn't working.lol Focus on SN+ obs from somewhere.

OSUmetstud
truth be told...I'm rooting for significant ice. I'm almost certain I'm not going to get good snow tomorrow...and I'd rather have 0.50" of zr accretion than 1-3" of sleet.

Mr Torchey
So how bad are we looking here with the potential (or is it eventual) ice storm in Southern CT? We have had that on off frosty fog/drizzle this evening. Also what time should the precip start? Threat is imminent. I think .3-.6 ice will occur. We have between 18-26 inch snowpack. Its going to be a long night.

mahk_webstah
Is it just me, or is that radar doing something funky? Mr. Windcredible!
Food for thought for those of us in S CT concerned about ice. Areas that can get close to 30 may be spared even if they stay below freezing. Rain will be heavy and with marginal temps like that it can really cut back on ice accrual on trees/powerlines. But areas that stay significantly colder, say <29 will be SOL.
moneypitmike
starting as light freezing rain in Erie, PA. Was it supposed to be snow?

cpickett79
hopefully i get to enjoy a day off tommorrow. I think i'm gonna have a stiff coffee manana and then rummage thru the very deep snow pack (approx 7 new today 30" deep)...like a drunken polar bear.. snow flakes mixed with a grab bag full of various precip out there......can't wait till the heavy crap hits the teens/low 20's in the am. 18F

Buy yeah I'd be much more worried about places in the 20s. I think biggest threat will be just inland. Also there have been very few damaging ice events on the immediate shore. 1973 is the big exception with a crippling amount but even the 94 ice wasn't widespread with damage. weatherwiz
The 0z RUC coming in warmer than the 18z GFS for HFD for the beginning of the storm and just a nudge warmer than the 18z NAM.
weathafella
When I walked home from work an hour ago....again...huge piles UPON huge piles. More on the way. Epic once in a lifetime winter...rolls on. AS warm signals mute, mother nature finds ways to keep us rocking on. East based NAO...yep...we can do that with a fight from SE ridge...yep...we'll stay on the cold side. Savor every moment. I need to go the vet to get dog food (I spend more on my dog than my own food...) and I am walking in the neighborhoods to get there.....amazing scene...urban Boston...hasn't been a winter like this in a very long time.
