ursa99
Thanks ursa for posting the Harvey map. Boston and Brookline is clearly in the 4-6 zone and that sounds ok. Looks like south of the city.....like just at the Milton Line it goes lower. We'll see. You are welcome. Sorry it couldn't be more.
Clinch Leatherwood
Weathr People in Tauntan saw the Euro today and are concerned that it is colder. Only thing giving them hesitation is the GFS 18Z because of its slightly warmer solution for storm #2 but the NAM and EURO say colder solution. Which would you go with? HMMMMMM....... None I'd go with the RUC in about 6 hours.
Tropopause_Fold
Oops...didn't even realize that Went to twisterdata and tried to get a plot as close as I could...the line between ZR and IP is just going to be so fine I doubt we'll really know for sure until the AM...you can see the sfc is warm enough for rain but not sure if I buy that just yet Id be surprised if the immediate surface got that warm. Guidance not doing a great job with just how cold the surface is. Saw some places away from the shore that were a good 8 degrees colder than modeled. After looking at the soundings GFS is actually colder except it warms things up really quickly when the dry slot races through, possibly since the precip isn't there to keep the column cool. Definitely still up in the air.

adamrivers
did u clear a board? or is that depth at the end of event? Cleared after the 7.75" measurements (posted pix here) at around 11. Measured 2.5" afterwards around 3pm.
BDR
Why are the accuweather pro soundings a lot colder than those twister data ones for the gfs? They are updated...

How do you measure a .05" of snow? I've always wondered that....my snow never quite aligns with a .05 so I'm always left wondering.

Clinch Leatherwood
Weathafella harvey's depiction is ugly. He just said he wouldn't be surprised if there was some sleet in Boston at 5am. His graphic had the sleet/mix line right on your doorstep at 5. What happens if we're both wrong?
BDR
OK whatever, mods can remove these if they violate some sort of rules. Here's the 18z GFS sounding for the coordinates of Hartford at 21hr. Seems cold.
moneypitmike
You see how the departing round 1 is trying to form a bridge to round 2. Gangbusters in the wee hours is my call. The snow down vs pl is the question and I still hold with some others that suggest the Pike is the battle gound. No way is this going into S NH. The bridge is running over my head. Snow continuing accumulating at a slow pace, but still coming. School actually closed the night before.....good stuff for some (I'll still be up at 4:30). weatherwiz
Wouldn't that be mostly rain? Verbatim yes, but Phil basically mentioned it with the below quoted post...I don't think the sfc gets that warm here. I'd be shocked if got above 28F or 29F. Id be surprised if the immediate surface got that warm. Guidance not doing a great job with just how cold the surface is. moneypitmike
Ok, time for a nap before a long night/early morning ahead. I think the steady precip is going to get back in here a bit sooner than models have it. Might favor the faster GFS for qpf. Hopefully sooner arrival doesn't mean sooner departure. If that happens and we get ice...ouch.
moneypitmike
I will be disappointed if I end up on the low end of the 6-12" range he has me in.
metagraphica
16/11, Pixie dust. 8.5" new, looks like BOX nailed part 1 here. Box forecast of 8-14" additional by Thursday morning will leave a stellar early Feb base. The skiing is tremendous. Magic Mtn. tomorrow for first tracks. Enjoy Magic Mtn. Haven't been there since Xmas 1987. Slide of Hans was always my favorite trail. 1" of snow today followed by .5" sleet and a glaze of FZRA. Looks like the models are leaning towards me turning to all rain tomorrow. Might have to travel north and do some skiing to see some good snow this weekend. HIPPYVALLEY
Yeah, snowNH, it's snowing again. I doubt it really accumulates, but it's nice. It's never really stopped precipitating here. A few hours of small granules but past hour we're back to SN-/SN. This feels like one of those situations where the air is so saturated it just snows lightly through to the the 2nd storm. Mr Torchey
Heavy sheet snizzle optimal glazing, roads are already a disaster off the beaten path. Was just out back and that eerie sound eminated as the wind picked up, that horrible creeking sound.
