I graduated with a psych minor.....I think the models need their own DSM.

That's a great double major.

16.7 currently here....it's going to be interesting here tomorrow.

21.2 here DP 17.6

I can't believe the models are showing that high of temps tomorrow.

They wouldn't mislead us would they?

It'll warm up. JST is sitting at 28 with a south wind, but downtown Johnstown is 21. The cold air will stay trapped in the valleys for only so long tomorrow without any high to our north. FZRA to RA tomorrow, then some snow west of I-99 tomorrow evening.

Monday/Monday night looks a little more intriguing now.

Won't a storm Monday/early Tuesday hurt our chances for the Thursday Special?

If it cranks up enough, it should aid in forming some blocking to our north/northeast. I really don't know how it will affect our storm chances just yet.

It's evident what's going on with the gfs right now, when compared to the Euro and GEM.

gfs_500_132m.gif

The energy over the carolinas and arkansas are separated and disjointed. What is more likely to me (as depicted by our friend the euro) is a max in Northern Bama or MS, pulling a stronger low up the coast.

I guess time will tell which one is right.

Woke up to see flashing lights out on a fairly major road in the distance. Accident.

Temp is 31 with freezing drizzle at the moment.

Local news says local roads are nasty and highway speed limit is 45.

Don't want to sound like a broken record but why no Freezing Rain Advisory? Just the plain vanilla WWA which doesn't capture the threat. Looks like local PennDOT and municipalities got caught again. With a little pretreatment, this would be a non-event on the roads. Guess the poor sap who is in a ditch right now 1/4 mile from me probably would have appreciated that too.

Probably should have issued one for the southern counties.

I don't know if it's a WWA issue. The local people should not have been caught flat footed here, this was forecasted. Plus, a WWA should let them know they need to get out and do something.

It reminds me of when people here will ask if roads will be bad or schools cancelled; I tell them forecasting weather is hard enough without trying to predict what local authorities will do.

I wholeheartedly agree! If this precip keeps up at this rate (slow), I will attain ice storm criteria of 0.25" on untreated surfaces. My immediate area is worse than it was Wed. morning. I also believe the local news (8) is not doing this weather event justice. Stay off the roads until salt/sun do its dirty work.

Wow, sounds pretty bad around Lancaster...and nothing here this morning - maybe a few snow pellets very early, but that's it. This is an uneducated guess, but it appears UNV is going to get pretty much dry-slotted by this whole event with maybe just a late kiss by the deformation - at least judging by the radar this morning. Which would be fine by me instead of the mess that's being predicted.

The back roads in the burbs to the east of Harrisburg are a MESS!!!! Police/fire police were directing traffic away from the more major road where there was a major accident. Within a block the other way there was a car off the road in a ditch and two into poles. Farther down there were 4 cars that just slid off the road. At that point I decided that my son was not going to musical practice at the High School and turned around. Turned out we were somehow left off of the email list telling us that it was canceled.

I can't believe I'm saying this....I hope it warms up some this afternoon. I really need to get the ice off of my sloped driveway before I kill myself!

We have dinner reservations at Confit in Camp Hill at 630 - hope we flip to rain here in Harrisburg soon. The roads by my house aren't terrible, buy sidewalks are identical to Wed morning.

CTP still says less than .1" ice here, rain has to go plain quickly for that to happen (if not already busted low).

I've been postponing my weekly walk to the Broad Street Market until temps went above freezing. Woke up to a sheet of ice on the sidewalks. Harrisburg area peeps - is it getting better out there?

I live a few blocks away (on Calitol Heights); roads tend to be not-awful but sidewalks are trouble most places. If you have snow boots that should give you enough traction.

Bring me a fish taco from the market, please? ;)

funny, I was just thinking about fish tacos. I'm taking your advice and going out with my boots on. Tired of sitting around the house watching the thermometer. The cold air has held on here a lot longer than I expected.

Here, this event went from ho hum to holy ****.

I mean, the scanner is lit up. These are the major incidents:

TRAFFIC ADVISORY

02/05/11 10:48(HARRIS TOWNSHIP - ) POLICE DEPARTMENT ON SCENE MULTI VEHICLE MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENT, NO INJURIES, POOR ROAD CONDITIONS IN AREA DUE TO ICE, USE CAUTION IN AREA [PEN102]MAJOR ACCIDENT

02/05/11 10:34(POTTER TOWNSHIP - FG 3) UPDATE: MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENT WITH DUAL ENTRAPMENT, HELICOPTER UNAVAILABLE DUE TO WEATHER, ADDL RESCUE NOW ON SCENE [PEN102]MAJOR ACCIDENT

02/05/11 10:20(POTTER TOWNSHIP - FG 3) FIRE DEPARTMENT ON SCENE MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENT WITH DUAL ENTRAPMENT, 1 PATIENT UNRESPONSIVE, CHECKING STATUS OF HELICOPTER, RD CLOSED AT THIS TIME [PEN102]

But there are way way more. Constant reports on Centre County scanner, some others reporting injuries. link: http://www.radioreference.com/apps/audio/?ctid=2254

Our temp dropped from 26.2 here but dropped to 24.5 when a freezing rain shower moved through, now back up to 26.1 and freezing drizzle.

This is as bad of an impact that we had all year with little qpf.
