Central PA Start of February

Driveway is an absolute skating rink....been working on it since I returned from class/work, but it's not working. Being on the side of the mountain hurt us with this one....limbs were down and everything was sagging this morning, hope to get pics up in the next day. Btw...what is everyones thoughts on the Saturday system? Do we have a shot at an inch or two to cover up this mess?

Definitely. I think I-80 and I-99 will be good roadway boundaries on this one. If you're southeast of those, don't look for much accumulation. Too warm.

I have had two days off from work this week due to the recent storm. This year (the last 4 or 5 weeks) has been as good as any other years. One or two more snow days and I'll be a happy man.

We had about 4 inches of snow and 2 inches of sleet, with a topping of .5 inches of ice.

I have a feeling we'll be watching storms for a while this year...

As far as I'm concerned I have every right to complain, my area hasn't seen an above average season regarding snow since 2007 and even that was average. If you haven't gotten mad to the fact that areas all around us have seen 2' + storms roll through but central and northern pa havent seen one since 1993 then you have more patients than me. Lets just see what this next event holds and hope JB's prediction about the rest of FEB torching

Not true. I think you missed the biggie in 96, PD2. Not to mention last february we saw 40" in a couple days, from 2 storms that dropped 18" and 22"

chilly this am, but not cold..24

Looks like the gfs and nam each wanna give mdt around .4 for the weekend..question is, will that be snow, sleet or freezing rain??

Nice...I like it a lot better now.

photoshop is a cool program. I like retouching photos.

If anyone else has a wx photo that needs a little retouching, let me know.

Back to the topic: I was not surprised to the road conditions in WIlkes-Barre today. some of the roads were great. and some of the roads were horrible.

Good morning to you as well,

That memorable week last February was the 2nd biggest week of snowfall in my lifetime.

I received 23" on 2/5 - 2/6

I received 19" on 2/10 giving me 42" in 5 days with an average snowcover of about 36" on the morning of 2/11

My biggest week ever was the week of 1/7/96

I received 31" on 1/7

I received 2" on 1/9

I topped it all of with another 11" on 1/12 for a whopping 44" in that memorable week.

By 1/20, it was ALL gone except for some piles.

Yes there are tons of things to get worked up about other than the snow deficit, but concentrating on snow and weather is in outlit to get away from the reality of life, and to be that kid again and when it fails to perform it gets frustrating. Its no different than those that get frustrated over their favorite professional sports team, same scenario different passion. I'm the same way when in weather and sports. It's either superbowl, worldseries or major snowstorm 12"+ or bust. There is no prize for playoff losers...Although I do enjoy the fundamentals of meteorology like storm development just like I appreciate the fundamentals in sports ie. the subtle layup or a sacrifice bunt or running the correct route in football, its all related

Man, you are really setting yourself up for disappointment.

This is supposed to be a fun diversion that yes, has it's disappointments, but to get this upset over it reminds me of a former co-worker. He golfed, and I have golfed with him several times. He never enjoyed himself or seemed to, and would get upset to the point of swearing loudly several at least 10 times every outing. He would be in a pissy mood sometimes for a few hours afterwards.

One night we were all out at dinner and he went into a rant about how he missed this shot that morning, and my then-girlfriend said along the lines of "Tim, every time you go golfing, you end up being angry and in a bad mood. When someone mentions golf, over half the time your reaction is all 'I freaking hate golf.' Why do something with your leisure time that makes you miserable?"

He then went into this whole "you don't understand how frustrating it is" spiel, and she simply said "But that doesn't answer the question."

Now, he settled down a lot as he matured. Though part of it was simply because people stopped wanting to golf with him.

What I am just saying it try not to get upset to the point where you are really angry all the time over a HOBBY. And frankly, anyone who complains non-stop becomes annoying. You know how in real life outside the Internet people don't want to be around non-stop complainers?

Appreciate the 3-6 snows......if you set the bar to the point where you only enjoy over 10 inch storms you are going to be pissed more times than not. You might not want to hear that, but that's reality.

Ya know, that damn groundhog........last year he predicted more winter. After our great February, the sun came out and melted all that snow and we were on the softball fields in record time in March............now the furry creture says early spring, you watch, we'll probably have a blizzard and not get on the field til April

Yeah.... nothing beats April of last year. That was nice!

Do you have any early thoughts on what happens around day 8 or so? Most models seem to indicate a rather potent storm on the east coast but take it out to sea without any effect on our area. However, I know that Wes seems at least somewhat interested in it, just wondering if you've had a chance to look that far out yet.

From what I saw with last nights 0z run... Euro has southern energy dip into Gulf and then track to carolinas then out to sea because it never phases with northern piece (Thursday into Friday)... GFS has the northern energy and no southern with a strong high moving into southeast US (Thursday/Thursday night)... CMC is similar to Euro but a day later (Friday-Sat) and has it phase too late to bring it up the coast...

No your right, and I'm really not a huge complainer, just been frustrated lately over everything and not getting snow events makes it worse, but it's cool, no big deal. Plus its my own fauly, I live in an area that isn't climitologically favorable for huge snowstorms. Trust me I completely understand where your coming from, becuase my friend is the same way in golf. I guess I should stop having such high standards in weather, well I guess in life in general. I don't want to be that person that makes the weather boarders a pain in the a** so I apologize for that, I didn't mean to come across as "that guy"

Yeah we def missed that, but You guys to the south got absolutely destroyed on that storm. To me that is probably the best storm for the North East, even more so than 1993.

12z runs so far are bad for central PA...not even an inch imo for everywhere.

Lancaster / York / Harrisburg will probably get something wintry. Total qpf ~ 0.40". Tapering N & W.

Just a little something on top of the ice which is on top of the snow which is on top of...grass I think?
