snowgirl
Thank you for the warm welcome. Black Moshannon was 29 degrees and as I got closer to state college it got up to 31. It's beautiful up there with all the ice. It took several tries to get my car door open this morning. Main roads are good and side roads are icy with some slush spots in the valley. Coming off the mountain, there were several tree branches and debris on the road but nothing serious.

amishwxman
About 1/2 in ice here; it looks like 5/8 in the picture but that's because its hard to find where the bevel is on the wooden handle through the ice. We still have power, thank goodness, but no wind at this time. My wx station says 33 deg F and there is some melting going on. Hopefully we can get rid of most of this before the winds pick up and temps drop as we move into the back side of the Low.
Festus
Not too bad here. Driveway was suicide though. Had to throw it in neutral to stop but once on the road, surface was softer and allowed traction. Once I got to Manheim Pike, traffic was doing 50. Probably not a top 10 ice storm around here but certainly a significant event nonetheless. I think we dodged a bullet. Weekend storm still looks on track. AlexP
Power out at my office in Camp Hill. Maybe the ice will melt off my car before I have to go in. Sitting right at 32 at my house in midtown Harrisburg. My side street is just slushy, so I would imagine that the main roads are fine.

Looks like it might be more wet than white around our parts to me. Even if we get wet snow, progged temps plus daytime radiation screams "no accumulations". canderson
Getting into work isn't going to be easy. Eyeballing about .35-,4" ice coating. Have power, hope this can melt before the winds arrive. MDT was "saved" by very heavy rain overnight, it couldn't freeze as much because it was so dense and rolling off.

JSTWX
can we stay all snow this weekend?!? I can hardly wait Gonna be close for you guys east of Routes 522/26. Surface temps are going to be marginal, but still worth watching over the next two days. Plus there's another threat next week before winter takes a break. pawatch
Icey mess here this morning. Was amused while drinking my coffee this morning. At the dove trying to stay on the icy wire. Also had some doves at the feeder this morning. Time to go clean the ice mess up. currently 34.2 degrees. Maybe we will get back into the weekend storm routine. Lets see what the models deal us. Have a great day!!
Festus
Lightning over around Tyrone in the past 10 minutes - just to SW of Port Matilda Looks like the cold front touching off some convection. Winds now gusting to 28 MPH at Pittsburg behind it. Hope we see enough melting here prior to frontal passage. In their current state, trees and power lines would be vulnerable to that kind of wind. AlexP
I'mstuck in a holding pattern at home waiting for the power to come back on at the office. Wors is that a transformer blew up and might take a few hours to fix. I have power at home, but my satellite service is out and I'm not about to go outside and chip ice off the dish. I learned my lesson last year when I knocked it out of alignment following Snowmageddon.

Also many transformers either caught fire or blew. East Pennsboro, Camp Hill, lemonye, Wormleysburg area seems like those who are having the most issues
dvdmgsr
In College Heights we should end up with several hours at 32F or above, which I am glad for. In a couple of hours I'm going to work on slush removal at home. On campus they're removing the layer of sleet, exposing the harder ice underneath. Gotta love that. I'm starting to see melting from the tree next to my house and I'm hearing icicles falling and cracking, so hopefully that process will be done before the winds kick up. My girlfriend got called into work and is reporting trees down all over Camp Hill with little to no traffic. The more I think about CAD and how vulnerable we are to it in this area, it surprises me that we haven't really had a lot of devastating ice storms around here. I've only spent about 10 winters in Harrisburg, but this is the worst one I've seen so far. Maybe it's because most of the ones I've experienced around here have occurred with temps barely below freezing, so things have typically thawed out fairly quicly following the precip. Is there a record of central PA's worst ice storms anywhere?
canderson
Driving through Harrisburg, it's a ghost town. No one is driving, which is good because it's a disaster area. The problem now is falling ice. A good 8 x 3 chunk of ice came falling off my house (three stories) when I was out shoveling the snow and ice (I didn't shovel yesterday, best decision ever as it was so easy to scoop up the ice and it's all dry underneath!) and nearly decapitated me. Coming in, I was getting on 83N at 13th and saw a truck exiting 83S at 13th and when making the turn off the ramp to 13th his trailer slipped, went up on the concrete jersey barrier and is dangling halfway over 83 ... Ive got limbs cracking every 30 seconds. I do notice an increase as you increase elevation her in North Adams Co. At 500ft, there is about 1/4". At 750, its approaching .5 and at my place over 1000ft, its over .5.
