jen2swt
Driving on 83 from Baltimore into York was insane...not icy but foggy. The colder it got the more intense the fog. Visibility in some spots were only 2 car lengths. About 29f here...

snowgirl
Hi all. I cannot read all those weather maps like the rest of you, but I enjoy reading your insights during winter. I live in Black Moshannon, love winter, and love snowmobiling. Coming up over the mountain tonight was quite a site. It reminds me of a freezing rain event we got up here in 2005...never seen anything like it in my life. The trees along the Allegheny Front are already covered in thick ice; however, once past there and into the park it is not as bad. My car read 25 degrees on top of the mtn. I would like to thank all of you who provide so much information and share your knowledge of weather. I find it quite interesting but have to honestly tell you that I read your posts always hoping for a big snow storm.
PennMan
Just talked with my dad. He measured 1.5" of mostly snow this morning. Temperature slipped under 26° there in Lebanon County with a dewpoint of 22°. ENE wind at 4-8mph. Gonna be an icy night...lost our largest white pine in the December 2007 ice storm...we'll see if any more succumb this go around.

Is anybody finding their temperature beginning to rise once the precipitation starts? It probably will rise a bit, but as long as you can sustain winds of at least a few mph out of the NE, that will overcome most of that for a time. I live right in town in Port Matilda; I am really glad someone from up there is posting here. Please, feel free to contribute just by posting obs. Guys, I have told you about how several miles up this mountain it can go from an inch to a fair amount of snow, and snowgirl lives on it. I wonder if there was a fair amount of fog? That might help with the glaze also. And holy crap, like 2005? I still can see the tree damage up there from that one.

I was getting reports earlier of fog on a lot of the hilltops, but that was when the temperatures were above freezing out there. Visibilities at JST have come up a bit since they went back below freezing, so it may not be as much of an issue now.

canderson
I am having a feeling MDT is going to see .5" of ice. Judging by the fact winds are ENE and it's 29 and there's already a coating of ice on most surfaces, things might get a bit ugly. I truly hope you guys in the more rural (ha, everyone here is more rural than me probably!) areas don't get much ice and lose power. Regardless, stay safe and warm everyone! JamieOber
freezing rain and sleet mixed, probably like 70-30 freezing rain-sleet ratio. Encouraging sign, as I would rather not lose power. Visibilities at JST have come up a bit since they went back below freezing, so it may not be as much of an issue now. When we were going over Skytop the fog was a bit thick at the top with a temp of 29 but my neighbor said it was really dense when he went through earlier and it wasn't super dense when we came through. So, same case up here.
