Wxnyc
Very icy here in Brooklyn everything covered with about 1/4 inch of ice already. Temps are creeping up to 28.7 from 27.1 at 1am I see jfk is still at 28 so this is not over for a while yet.

Hailstorm
Unbelievable. The temp will probably never crack 32* F even in the 5 boroughs of NYC, Monmouth county and Long Island until after the precipitation ends. The HRRR, RUC and NAM nailed the thermal profiles way in advance and better than the GFS, GGEM, RGEM and ECMWF. My temp here in Southern Brooklyn has been sitting at 28.7* F for a good half-hour. nzucker
just took a walk in front of my condo... down to the road. it's almost impossible to do anything outside. about .2" ice on top of the snow........ even the treated road in front of my home is ice and slush covered. It's a sheet of ice here, moderate ZR at 25.8/25... I am supposed to be working as a substitute teacher tomorrow, but I think it's safe to stay up this late as most schools are going to cancel. I'd say 75% of Westchester schools were cancelled today, and road conditions are going to be much worse in the AM hours tomorrow given the incredible amount of ice falling from the sky. Just a ridiculous and ominous scene outside.
tmagan
06Z RGEM has precipitation ending by 18Z. 00Z RGEM blew it with nearly one inch liquid equivalent from 12Z to 00Z Thursday, that certainly will not happen.
green tube
Just a ridiculous and ominous scene outside. the region is simply going to be shut down this morning. not only will driving be dangerous.... just getting to and from your car will be dangerous. nzucker
Weird almost doing nothing atm There's a bit of a lull but a huge band is going to come through Westchester in 15-20 minutes and dump a bunch more freezing rain. Then we'll deal with the dryslot as the precipitation turns more isolated and showery in nature approaching the morning commute/clean-up. We're really going to get screwed by the next band though, already pretty dangerous outside. Temperature has stopped rising so fast, now at 26.1F with -ZR. What's your temp/dew? tmagan
I'm surprised on the METARS there isn't, that I can see, a designation for 'heavy freezing rain'.
isnice
Just went for a walk outside. The road surfaces are glistening in the light. Trees and branches are very well covered by ice. Temps is 28.9 degrees and heavy precip. continues to fall. I don't know if it's freezing anymore, but it is not melting what has already accumulated. nzucker
The temperature increase has definitely slowed here just a few miles north of NYC....currently at 26.4 with steady freezing rain. I thought we might change over to rain given how fast temperatures were shooting up earlier, but we've leveled off and look to remain frozen for the vast majority of the storm. I'm amazed that Central Park is still at 28F.
