earthlight
that is not a good sign 2 hrs into the icing.... There's been a glaze on trees and power lines for a good hour now. Lets hope this gets over with quickly.
Quincy
wow. Precip is really moving fast, could be done even sooner than 8 or 9 in NYC, unless the secondary gets cranking soon.

Kaner587
Yeah, that's a little worrying...temp is down to 24.2F here...no way we'll get above freezing in time to save ourselves. I think we're in trouble...0.5in of ZR seems like a probability at this point with the potential for more. Expecting a lot of power outages up here
Snowlover11
no power flicker here yet, but it is certainly crazy outside, went outside and nearly took a nose dive!

green tube
1/8" layer of ice on top of the snow. temp was stable for a couple of hours at 28 F........... but has jumped to 31.1F in about 30 minutes. the rutgers wx station about 5 miles to my NW hasnt changed.... still 28. Thunderdude
If the secondary don't get cranking LI and southern part of NYC will go to rain before the precip ends during mid morning to noon until then this will be nasty icy conditions now. If the coastal does form then temps won't rise too much and most of LI and NYC except the immediate south shore will stay at or below through the entire event which will Trouble with capital T. Dsnowx53
This is really getting bad. I took a walk outside around campus and the trees are literally ice sculptures. I took some pics on my phone over a half an hour ago, then came back to that same spot a bit later since it got worse and I wanted more pics. However, I just heard loud crackling from above me and didn't want to risk any branches falling on me, so I got away... I also couldn't walk up a sloped sidewalk. RU848789
Already had a power blip here in Metuchen, so wouldn't be surprised if we lose power soon. Have somewhere around 1/8" of ice right now and it's accumulating. Temps around 28F.

Dsnowx53
The one you texted me was blurry. It was really hard trying to hold the branch steady with one hand and operate my phone with the other. I still think you can see the accretion in the pic pretty well despite the blurriness. It's really coming down here...you can hear it outside. nzucker
no power flicker here yet, but it is certainly crazy outside, went outside and nearly took a nose dive! I just took my dog for a walk, it is a very unusual yet frightening sight here in Westchester. We're having a heavy mix of sleet pellets and ZR, trees are beginning to glaze over, and the roads look like a skating rink pockmarked with sleet and snow. I wouldn't be surprised if we lose power later, just a freakish event unfolding with so many hours of moderate/heavy precipitation ahead of us and temperatures stable in the low-mid 20s. 24.2/

You think this means the coastal will keep winds NE and lock in the cold? You said temps were down in Danbury so does this mean the cold air will continue southward into NYC metro and long island?
