Quite a blizzard setting in on Chicago...recalling the earlier posts how very few storms that produced major snows there produced major snows in NYC...while of course correct...because a favorable set up for one city is usually unfavorable for the other...do recall an exception...Blizzard of April 6, 1982 was big snow producer in both towns as well as Detroit.

What I find incredible is the fact that in any normal winter, this storm track would lead to 60's along the coast (except for coastal transfer helping it out a bit). The max temp. for the region tomorrow in warmest areas looks to be around 35 degrees. Boston is getting a huge snow/sleet storm with a lake cutter!

SW Jersey likely will get pretty warm if RGEM forecast comes to pass..

I'm starting to get concerned here in Manasquan, NJ. I thought this close to the shore it was supposed to stay warm enough that we'd get no icing. The temp has dropped from 36 degrees at 3 pm to 30 now! So, is the shore going to get the icing too?

some initially, but probably changes over to plain rain relatively quickly. temps will continue falling for the next couple of hours and will level off once precip moves in.

If you like ice I think this is about as close to a major ice storm setup as you can get for our area. The one limiting factor might be if too much sleet mixes in. With temps down into the low to mid 20's in the interior ice should have no problem accumulating. Question is we know how hazerdous even a trace can be for driving/walking ect. But will this be enough to bring down trees and powerlines? I think 0.5" is probably too borderline to cause widespread damage. If someone pulls off 0.75"+ which could very well happen the concequences would be horrific

i think upton should issue icestorm warning for nyc soon, looks pretty significant IMO everything already coated in brooklyn, and rememeber all boroughs but Manhattan have outside power lines and all these places have had freezing drizzle all day many people might be in for a surprise espically since precip seems to be moving faster then modeled.

I don't think that is the case.

Radar shows liquid precip straddling the WVa / Ohio border on a NE track. I'm starting to think that although it may start off as frozen precip, Jersey and the Island go to all liquid before morning. I'm hoping I'm wrong as that much rain would put to screws to me as far as my basement possibly flooding with the combined snow melt and falling precip.
