Sey-Mour Snow
wow has anyone seen .5-.75" of qpf spit out in one hour before.. look at the 18z ruc around the center of this explosive storm
Isotherm
Sorry, but winds ain't shifting to the east with this damming setup for NYC. ENE at best for a few hours. I agree, and am afraid this could be another bust in NYC if Upton doesn't go with a warning for NYC. As there's a big difference in people's expectations in terms of "danger" when they hear the term "ice storm warning" versus "freezing rain advisory" or "winter weather advisory." Obviously the former sounds much more threatening.

dbc
Very rarely do you hear the NWS OKX proclaim "this is a dangerous situation". I think we have a long day or so ahead of us. So what do you think, do we completely avoid bumping past freezing at the surface before the precip gets out of here?
battlebrick
Does Mount Holly have an ice forecast like the Upton pic above?
Guest stormchaser
Not too bad yet, expecting it to get bad after dark! Actually saw a few snow flakes about an hour ago! Yea, its generally not terrible, they are struggling to keep up on campus here, have seen numerous people twist ankles/ and one fell pretty bad and hit their head, thus the campus is closed until at least 11 Am tomorrow. And ya know i thought i saw a few flakes in there when the precip was getting a bit on the heavier side, i thought maybe i was just seeing things. IsentropicLift
Too be honest, that ice forecast may be a tad underdone. I think they are still counting on a good portion of the QPF to fall as sleet. They now mention in the AFD that they don't expect the ICW area to get above freezing at all tommorrow. If more freezing rain falls we could approach 1" in spots.

Analog96
Snowing in Brooklyn? That wasnt expected. We had snow from the same little batch earlier. I was leaving work and thought that the flakes were the ice I was chipping off my car. But I stopped and looked and it was snowing.

nycsnow
flurries in brooklyn!!, btw im really concerned for nyc 5 boroughs, many outdoor power lines, and upton only has advisory people wont take that as a big deal IMHO a ice storm wanring needs to be issued, weather they bust or not this is a major storm and could possibly bust with more ice and noone will expect it. Hailstorm
I find it ironic and funny that Upton keeps on wobbling between forecasting close to 0.5" and just 0.2" of ice accretion for NYC metro after each update on the point-and-click forecasts and ice map. I wish billgwx (Upton AFD writer) was posting and reading in this thread now to give us some insight on this.

Down to 25.4* here in Clifton I keep getting visions of the movie Ice Storm in my brain which actually did take place in New Canaan, CT in the 70's just not around Thanksgiving time like the movie depicts, lol. Not nearly as severe for us as it was for them in that event of course.
