As I just told Hoosier in a PM:

My mom just called me and said she watched Jerry Taft on the 6:00 news, and he is "in awe" of this storm. He showed his model forecasted snow totals (27.8" for IKK or something close to that) and my Mom said her jaw hit the floor...never mind the fact I've been telling her that this could approach 2 feet for them. Imagine that, Jerry Taft being "excited".

18z GFS for DTW:

QPF: 1.05"

Snowfall: 13.8"

18z GFS for PIA:

QPF: 1.97"

Snowfall: 36.0"

Okay...so where does this run go wrong? 36.0 inches?? Do we really think that is probable? And what local tools go into downgrading the data in the computer run (used by the NWS and television meteorologists?

so following the Taft rule of multiplying by 4, this is going to be biblical.
