aslkahuna
Actually, a flood like that in Saudi Arabia though rare would not be a unique event. Deserts have this nasty habit of either getting no rain for months or years on end or getting a year's or more worth of rain in an hour or two. Additionally, desert soil is usually not very permeable so runoff would be much heavier than what one would get in a similar storm in an area with better soil and ground cover.
