spiffybeth
i watched a few deer jumping through the snow the other day on the way home from work. they had no problem clearing a 4' snow bank on the side of the road!
tamarack
Beautiful pic! Snow depth looks like it's getting to the point of restricting deer travel. Much more could be a real problem, especially where the deer traditionally yard up in hemlock. The hemlock woolly adelgid has hammered that species in PA/NJ/NY/CT, among other places. My memories of the epic winter of 1960-61, when NW NJ recorded snow depths exceeding 50", include reading that 1/2 (some accounts 2/3) of the deer in that region perished. Given current deer populations and damaging herbivory, some (myself not included) might see a repeat as being not a bad thing.
