I cannot overemphasize that RT 78, Rt 81, Rt2 22, Rt 61,Rt3 3 and even the turnpike stand a good chance of being shut down in the next 8 hours or so. The ice accrual will be faster than salt can melt the ice and sleet and vehicles cannot travel on just ice. This does include the accidents to come with the road conditions with trees and poles down in the roads. Emergency services will be tried in the morning. The real threat other than the power issue is that even if can get out, nothing will be open or you cannot get there because of the road conditions. weight_lift.gifweight_lift.gifweight_lift.gifweight_lift.gifweight_lift.gifweight_lift.gifweight_lift.gifweight_lift.gifweight_lift.gif

Penndot is going to surprise you if this stays mostly ZR.

The more sleet you get the worse the road conditions will be.

Sorry to spoil the fun, but there's no snow in State College (I'm here at PSU). We've had freezing rain with a little sleet mixed in at times for the past 5 hours. The State College obs have been wrong most of the night, earlier they said it was just overcast for a few hours while the freezing rain was coming down pretty hard. Those automated systems still have some kinks to get worked out with winter precipitation. arrowheadsmiley.png

Sorry to get off topic, hope you all in the Lehigh Valley don't get too badly iced over tonight, we're already getting iced pretty well out here.

LOL, boy did we ever dodge a bullet up here. I had prepared for a major ice storm, and what did I get? An inch and a half of sleet. I'll be willing to bet we only got 0.1" of ice. So little of it accumulated that my wife's washlines aren't even sagging at all. We must have ran 90-100% sleet for most of the storm.

Current temperature is 29.5 as of 5:00AM. So how did everyone else do?

I have 25.3F at the cabin wx station. I heard the sleet on the web cam feeds. Will confirm local conditions at sun up. The spots are off right now. I knew things were looking good when I did not see the generator kick on.
