Goofy has been bringing in some cold air and water after the 20th for some days now. I sure hope it is on to something. I need relief from this heat. To rub it in the damn ice cream man came around on Sunday with that horrid music that makes me think of the terrors of summer h & h, lol. T

We have a creepy ice cream truck in Emerson that plays Christmas songs year round. It's funny to watch my neighbor, a grown man, running down the street in his bare feet to chase after the truck.

Got to love this tranquil weather! It's about time I am able to thaw out some... However, I don't like how quiet it is... It's getting boring saying it's going to be sunny and dry and pleasant and beautiful and glorious and fantastic over and over again during the morning show. Luckily I am a morning person! Otherwise, watching me in the morning could be as boring as this weather :D:lmao:

On a different note. Did any of you hear about the NWS budget cuts. Apparently congress is cutting the funding for the NWS by 30% come the 2nd half of 2011.:gun_bandana:

"When the budget blade drops on the NWS, it will be felt around the country," said NWSEO President Dan Sobien. "In the next hurricane, flood, tornado or wildfire, lives will be lost and people will ask what went wrong. Congress's cuts and the devastation to the wellbeing of our nation's citizens are dangerously wrong."

Reduced funding will mean upper air observations currently made twice a day might be reduced to every other day. Buoy and surface weather observations, the backbone of most of the weather and warning systems, may be temporarily or permanently discontinued. Delays in replacement satellites run the risk of losing key weather data that can be obtained no other way. "This information is vital for weather modeling and essential for accurate tornado watches and warnings," said Sobien.

I heard about that. Not liking what I'm hearing based on that report. This is going to cause some serious issues regarding warnings of weather threats to folks. Hopefully there will be a decision against the idea but knowing Congress....

Maybe they can put the GFS out of its misery with those cuts.

12Z Goofy was released late today. Can anyone here say with a straight face that they missed it when it was late? If the answer is what i expect, maybe we don' t need that stinkin' model and can just rely on the Doc. At the very least, do we need the 6Z and 18Z Goofy runs? I vote that wx geeks across the land make a sacrifice of losing the 6Z/18Z Goofy. Anyone disagree?

I never take anything new I see on the 18 seriously. By the time I get around to checking the 6, the 12 is nearly out :) Suit me to cut the editions and spend the money on upgrades. Better yet, do away with the goofy all together, and give us free Euro instead, lol. Tony

Folks,

Speaking of 18Z Goofy, I'm glad it hasn't yet been eliminated as it shows a lot of fun and games for much of the SE US for 2/28-3/2 due to a combo of a major Arctic outbreak for the MW/NE US and a very wet Miller A storm. The details this far in advance aren't important However, this does indicate that the idea of winter being over may be hogwash.

It may just now be starting to recognize the effects of the Greenland ridge next week, and maybe beyond. The Euro is showing its effects nicely, and I wouldn't be surprised to see the storm track adjusted further south next week on both models. But with the Pac. like it is, it will only get so far south. Beyond that, if the block shifts around or stays put, at the very least our warm air could be in jeapordy thanks to the 50/50 low the block could generate, but its pure speculation right now.

Good grief!!! I am really over this cold I have. Feels like cement has been dumped in my sinuses. Good thing the wife is a physician. At least she can look at me and let me know I'm going to live. The weather has been nice, though. Lots of wind today. CPC has early March painted pretty cold on their 8-14 day forecast.
