Draxinar
Hey welcome! Good to have another member from the city with the best climate in the world. Things are looking up. The 12z GFS was gold, giving us between 10-12" Can't say this enough. Incredible to think this is happening on the second anniversery of the 2009 February megabust. Almost poetic in fact. The trends have been the exact opposite to that storm. Thank you! I just had a look at the new Canadian, and it looks good for us, though given its waffling, I don't know whether to look at that with suspicion or elation. I suspect with that Environment Canada will change our forecast haha...I don't personally care for TWN...more like Toronto Weather Network! Chicago right in the heart.. epic stuff. Going to be a lot of happy travelers at Ohare and MDW... To say the least Frank. 0.97" liquid on the 12z GFS BUFKIT, with temps hovering from 15-20 °F during the entire storm at the sfc and a bit colder aloft. That's gonna make the ratios 20+, so hell, 2 feet of snow if this scenario plays out?
Chicago WX
For those in central IN, 12z GFS soundings look like a relatively short amount of mix to a well above freezing all rain event south of a LAF to MIE line. IND gets to 36º...meanwhile LAF only gets to 26º, MIE 30º. Alas, the warmth is creeping north...

Thundersnow12
speechless. most excited I have ever been THE HEAVY SNOWFALL FROM THE MAJOR WINTER STORM DURING TUESDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH WEDNESDAY MORNING...AND THE INCREASINGLY INTENSE LAKE EFFECT SNOW DEVELOPING DURING WEDNESDAY...IN EXCESS OF A FOOT AND A HALF OR MORE OF SNOW WILL NOT BE UNCOMMON OVER MUCH OF NORTHERN ILLINOIS AND FAR NORTHWEST INDIANA. SNOWFALL RATES UP TO 3 INCHES PER HOUR WILL BE PROBABLE AT THE HEIGHT OF THE STORM TUESDAY NIGHT.

Chicago WX
Do it. And yeah 3" per hour rates + 45 mph winds = My success rate is not good when traveling north for storms. It's probably better for all if I stay put.

The_Global_Warmer
not saying this is a good thing, but its a back seat to possible 30"+ amounts. 2 inches of ice will probably end up giving STL it's worst natural disaster ever.

Chicago WX
I see zero talk here about the incoming crippling ice storm. I'm all ears Friv, though right now it looks more sleety than icey for here and other places. But the first indicators of 33+ and rain are starting to show themselves for here. Lots to sort out...
