Good grief you got 5" allready! Started right out as light snow here before i passed out this morning at ummm what 3am. Now its whiteout lol. Its allready blowing and drifting so an accurate measurement is gonna be nearly impossible. Id guess 2-3" maybe more i really dont know

Just switched over to predominately snow here in Monett the last few minutes. Prolly 1-2 in of sleet out there.

Yuck. I heard thundersleet while I was napping... went back to sleep... Looked outside when I got up and it was white out with a 'foggy' look which was heavy snow.

Basically how it happened here also. I just passed out on the sofa last night I couldnt hold my eyes open. Got a few hours of sleep at least lol. I saw some lightning out in the distance last night walking the dog it was cool. Woke up and it looked foggy and said wow thats not fog its snowwww. Anyways i swear in an area of the front porch out of the wind there looks to be 7" out there allready!

Just got off the phone with my Mom. She lives on W. Zora St & has a unofficial 6" She sez the flakes look to be dime to pea size so it looks like the area is seeing some good ratios already. Gotta say the 5:00 am AFD by Springfield is most impressive! Congrats guys.

Hear is the part of the AFD:

AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION

NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SPRINGFIELD MO

503 AM CST TUE FEB 1 2011

...PARALYZING BLIZZARD COMMENCING...

...UPDATE TO AVIATION DISCUSSION BELOW...

.DISCUSSION...

A HISTORIC WINTER STORM IS NOW TAKING SHAPE ACROSS THE CENTRAL AND

SOUTHERN PLAINS REGION. RECENT OBSERVATIONS ACROSS CENTRAL AND

EASTERN OKLAHOMA INDICATE THAT BLIZZARD CONDITIONS ARE ALREADY

DEVELOPING. SNOWFALL RATES OF 2 TO 3 INCHES PER HOUR HAVE RECENTLY

BEEN REPORTED IN CENTRAL OKLAHOMA. MEANWHILE...SUSTAINED WINDS AND

GUSTS HAVE REALLY INCREASED EARLY THIS MORNING NEAR THE INTERSTATE 35

CORRIDOR. SUSTAINED WINDS OF 30 KNOTS WITH GUSTS AROUND 40 KNOTS

ARE ONGOING AS LOW PRESSURE IS BEGINNING TO DEEPEN ACROSS CENTRAL

TEXAS.CONDITIONS WILL GET MUCH WORSE ACROSS SOUTHEAST KANSAS AND THE

MISSOURI OZARKS AS WE HEAD INTO THIS MORNING. AS FOR THE PREDAWN

PERIOD...PLEASE REFER TO THE PREVIOUS DISCUSSION ISSUED AT 311 AM.

FROM THE 12 TO 18Z RANGE...LARGE SCALE LIFT WILL MAXIMIZE AS A

STRONG JET COUPLING STRUCTURE DEVELOPS. ADDITIONALLY...STRONG

UPPER LEVEL SHORT WAVE ENERGY WILL BEGIN TO EJECT OUT OF THE

CENTRAL PLAINS AND TAKE ON A NEGATIVE TILT...CREATING A STRONGLY

DIFFLUENT FLOW. MEANWHILE...INTENSE PRESSURE ADVECTION WILL

CONTINUE IN THE LOW TO MID LEVELS...MAXIMIZING DEEP TROPOSPHERIC

ASCENT. WIDESPREAD HEAVY SNOW IS THEREFORE EXPECTED THIS MORNING

ALONG AND NORTH OF THE INTERSTATE 44 CORRIDOR. CONVECTIVE ELEMENTS

WILL CONTINUE WITHIN THE MAIN AREA OF HEAVY SNOW...RESULTING IN 2

TO 3 INCH PER HOUR SNOW RATES. SOUTH OF THE INTERSTATE...A WINTRY

MIX WILL CONTINUE AS A WARM NOSE PERSISTS. DO THINK THIS WARM NOSE

WILL BEGIN TO LOSE ITS PUNCH STARTING LATER THIS MORNING AS AN 850

MB LOW APPROACHES SOUTH CENTRAL MISSOURI. THEREFORE THINK THE

TRANSITION FROM SLEET AND FREEZING RAIN TO SNOW WILL BEGIN SOUTH

OF THE INTERSTATE.

AS WE HEAD INTO THIS AFTERNOON...THE MAIN JET COUPLING STRUCTURE

WILL SHIFT INTO CENTRAL AND NORTHERN MISSOURI. HOWEVER...STRONG

UPPER LEVEL LIFT WILL CONTINUE ACROSS SOUTHERN MISSOURI AS THE

REGION IS IMPACTED BY THE LEFT EXIT REGION OF A STRENGTHENING

UPPER LEVEL JET. THEREFORE THINK THE HEAVY SNOW WILL PERSIST OVER

MOST AREAS. ONE EXCEPTION TO THAT MAY BE SOUTH CENTRAL MISSOURI

WHERE PRECIPITATION WILL BE A LITTLE SLOWER TO TRANSITION TO SNOW.

ADDITIONALLY...A DRY SLOT MAY WORK NORTH INTO THE AREA.
