Blizzard warning here as well now. I think we were in one during that 2006 snowstorm but I cant remember now for sure....not this past xmas but the one before that when I lived in lowry city that was a blizzard warning as well during that xmas snow if memory serves me right

12/24/09 you mean? That one was my favorite of all the snowstorms I've ever been in. (possible double meaning for was)

AREA FORECAST DISCUSSIONNATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE ST LOUIS MO342 PM CST MON JAN 31 2011.DISCUSSION.../340 PM CST MON JAN 31 2011/NOT MUCH CHANGE TO PREVIOUS THINKING AS THIS WILL BE A CRIPPLINGSTORM FOR MUCH OF THE AREA WITH BETWEEN 1/2 AND 1 INCH OF ICE INTHE SOUTHEAST AND BLIZZARD CONDITIONS WITH 1 TO 2 FEET OF SNOW INTHE NORTWEST WITH WARNING CRITERIA OF BOTH ICE AND SNOW IN BETWEEN.AREA OF SHRA PRODUCING A MIX OF FREEZING RAIN AND SLEET CONTINUESTO MOVE NORTHEASTWARD IN BAND OF LOW LEVEL MOISTURE CONVERGENCETHAT HAS PERSISTED THROUGH THE DAY. THE LATEST RUNS OF RUC AND NAMSHOW THIS BAND OF FORCING MOVING NEWD THIS EVENING AS WEAKSHORTWAVE TROUGH LIFTS NEWD OF THE AREA. CHANCES OF MEASUREABLEWILL LOWER EXCEPT FOR THE SOUTHERN AND EASTERN PARTS OF THE CWA ASFRONTOGENESIS INCREASES OVER SOUTHERN MISSOURI IN ADVANCE OF MAINSYSTEM.MODELS ARE IN GOOD AGREEMENT WITH THE PATH OF THIS HISTORIC STORMSYSTEM THAT WILL MOVE ACROSS THE AREA TUESDAY AND TUESDAY NIGHT.LARGE SCALE ASCENT WILL INCREASE RAPIDLY AHEAD OF NEGATIVELYTILTED TROUGH. IDEAS FROM PREVIOUS DISCUSSIONS STILL STAND THATTHERE WILL BE VERY STRONG LOW-MID LEVEL FRONTOGENESIS AND LOWLEVEL MOISTURE CONVERGENCE FEEDING INTO THE SYSTEM THAT WILLPRODUCE AROUND 2 INCHES OF QPF OVER THE CWA THROUGH EARLYWEDNESDAY. THERE WILL BE ENOUGH NEGATIVE EPV AND OUTRIGHTINSTABILITY TO CAUSE HIGHER AMOUNTS IN MESOSCALE BANDS AND WITHTHUNDERSTORMS. COBB METHOD SUGGEST UP TO 1:15 SLRS WITH THE SNOWBANDS.

Just looked at the updated zones for this area:

Joplin: Total snow accumulation 17 to 20 inches.

Monett: TOTAL SNOW ACCUMULATION 11 TO 18 INCHES.

Something has to go horribly wrong.... it just has to.......

If they bust, they are going to look like such arses. Businesses closing, people buying twelve loves of bread. ten gallons of milk.

Good news is it looks like they are backing off of the ice predictions for Joplin and Springfield.

One of the Hospitals is in an emergency plan and all non-essential departments are closed. Wal-Mart supercenter reminded me of a jungle or something. It was like super panic mode with people buying tons of food. All the bottled water was sold out. Bread isle was mostly depleted. Got the last bag of hamburger buns.

Ha, that's funny. We did our shopping at the W. Walmart yesterday and I told my wife then that their shelves would be bare within 24 hours. People here are in panic mode.
