MDstorm
0z GFS so close for next weekend. Actually gets some precip into VA and MD, but the bulk of precip is OTS. Still, not bad for this time frame. MDstorm Upon further review, with high pressure moving off of the east coast and low pressure in the Great Lakes, lack of cold air could be a problem if this storm trends closer to the coast. Remember how the GFS looked a couple of days ago with the early week threat. It looked cold for a few runs, then warmed up over the last 2 days. I'd like to see a little more high pressure modeled to our west and a little less to our east. MDstorm
mdhokie
I dunno if I can get on board with this. I can't have two superbowl parties canceled in a row. The only way I'd be okay with this is if we get another 50" within a week.
MidlothianWX
If that 00z GFS verified verbatim I would be very pleased. 3-5" of snowfall for RIC and my Packers playing in the Super Bowl
Scarlet Pimpernel
If this storm goes well, it shall be named the Reagan Centennial storm. Uhhhhh, wellll...there you go again!! If they won't put my name on any currency, then go ahead and name a storm after me! It'll go nicely with that airport and Trade Center building I've got already! And, I'll have you know it's not my centennial, but would be the 61st anniversary of my 39th birthday! --Ronnie
Fozz
This won't be a major storm. Maybe a 3-6" type event if it pans out.

But the way this winer has gone, by its standards that would be fairly significant if we were to pull that off.

Scarlet Pimpernel
When someone has a foot of snow in his backyard, the mentality changes pretty quickly. Well, when that foot of snow is about to get dumped on with a bunch of rain, mentality changes back just as quickly! Though I see your point. Scarlet Pimpernel
GFS in the longer range looks kind of interesting. Still advertising this sort of broad looking trough across the country south of the vortex in Canada. Even as the western ridge retrogrades, and even with no real -NAO, it looks overall fairly cold. Maybe keeping that vortex on this side of the pole helps us some in that regard, even if the normal indices aren't looking the most favorable? Ellinwood
I'm starting to like the solutions for this storm more and more... the models are trending the southern energy to kick out later and later, much like how our last storm trended in the mid-range. I wouldn't be surprised if we had to bump this storm into Monday, since the setup/trend is starting to look awfully familiar.
mitchnick
NAM has the second vort looking very impressive. Much more so than the GFS previous runs. gotta' be careful it doesn't get too impressive or it will end up to our west
