weathafella
Yea, I mentioned this to Ray last night - and despite the NAO/PNA warm signaling, the AO would respond in later this month to a propagating SSW event. Propagating nature is critical- however. Suspending a warm node at 5 to 1mb altitude won't cut it. It has to jack-knife into the tropopausal depths. If so, all bets are off and we likely keep this approaching obscene winter beast roaring. Hey John, I'm sad I left before you came last night. Always fun talking to you. MaineJayhawk
18Z GFS: Back to shoveling off the deck piles so the roof pile can go there and then dumped into the yard. I'm going to have quite the mountain! You'll have 2k elevation in your own yard perhaps.

ctsnowlover
GFS not even close to holding it back as much as the NAM did. looks like a trend to the NAM to me at 72 hrs, much colder....

DomNH
looks like a trend to the NAM to me at 72 hrs, much colder.... I don't think there can be a trend in one set of runs. I'd bet the 00z runs head back towards Euro-land anyway.
leesun
Well, 18z GFS lessens the risk of a massive ice storm for HFD on north. Snow and sleet will be the name of the game

dendrite
no kidding. wow. I think I get more this run than 12z. I'm into better ratios and deformation with similar QPF. The 850 temps look similarly cold to the 12z EC ens.

CoastalWx
PVC-PYM-HFD The difference I see on this run, is that the PV is further south on the 18z run. It's noticeable around hr 60. In turn, the Plains s/w is further south. And, it snows into Thursday morning..lol.
DomNH
That's probably 20''+ here if get semi-decent ratios.
rivers
Well, 18z GFS lessens the risk of a massive ice storm for HFD on north. Snow and sleet will be the name of the game but will this mean big time icing for the coast now?

mattb65
We could have easily seen a north trend today instead we trend to record breaking winter, why are we surprised. This is the antithesis of last winter everything trends to maximize snowfall, it's unbelievable. We get north trends when we need them now south trends when we need it. Quickly heading toward weenie chucking.
