tmagan
congrats to the big apple, get that inch!! I have no idea what the big deal about this one inch snowfall is, so what if KNYC broke a record from eleven months ago.

It would be interesting if someone made a poll as to what the better winter month was Feb 2010 or Jan 2011. Positive points for Feb 2010-- --big retrograding HECS --the number 2 storm (MECS) was a better storm for NJ, NYC and Western LI than the number 2 storm of Jan 2011 -- the number 3 storm (SECS) was better than the number 3 storm for Jan 2011 Negative points for Feb 2010-- -- will forever be remembered for the storm that just barely missed us. -- no arctic outbreak Positive points of Jan 2011 -- no near misses (even the number 2 storm was an MECS for NYC, while it was an HECS for Suffolk County and CT) -- Arctic outbreak -- lots of thundersnow with the HECS that recently occurred -- much longer duration snowpack Negative points of Jan 2011 -- missed getting a 20" snowstorm by one inch (you can negate this if you include the period from Dec 26 to Jan 26).... but this is really splitting hairs. Obviously Im going to vote for Jan 2011.
green tube
It would be interesting if someone made a poll as to what the better winter month was Feb 2010 or Jan 2011. one of the interesting ways to look at the "snowiest month" record is to consider how many months we have on record.... there's roughly 520 winter months on record in nyc (dec, jan, feb, march since roughly 1880) #1 among 500+ months is pretty impressive. the fact that the 2 greatest happened within a year of each is pretty amazing. I agree, growing up in the 80's as a teenager, times were tough snow wise, too many are spoiled, things can and will turn on a dime. Climo will catch up with all of us sooner or later, I think it s pretty damn impressive and historic, but to each there own

ict1523
Another light coating. I'm getting used to constant snow. What will I do when it stops? Or better yet next winter? The cold I experienced in Poland last winter and the snow I've experienced this winter only reinforced my love for the both of them. Quebec City is my ideal climate! <

But if only I could live somewhere where snowcover was basically guaranteed from November thru March. I appreciate tons of smaller events a lot more than one big behemoth. FreeRain
The snow piles surrounding my driveway, now dominating my front yard and house, are starting to creep me out. Seemed like a good idea back in December, starting them on the north facing front of my house. Anyway, I just got back from Boston and it looks we got about 1/2" IMFY. Did KNYC get its inch? Anybody? I hope so.
