OV Winter Storm Threat for February 2-3

Not going to come back as a regular poster. Found a couple other places for debate and such, but this is still the best place to be during a major storm. This could be a historic ice storm if trends hold up. For all the snow that Chicago and areas to the north may get, it won't be snow that would be the cause of significant damage.

How come?

welcome back...

so wtf is up with ILN....they haven't cancelled the warning yet they only have a tenth of an inch of ice. ...major head scratcher

Don't know, it's almost as if they wrote it wrong. Perhaps there will be an explanation in the AFD. Looking at some the the sites, I've been watching temps since this morning. The baro zone has set up basically along the Ohio River and has not budged all day. If anything, the last few hours, it has nudged south. That would at least explain why ILN does not mention a change to rain and temps staying, at best, in the low 30s through tomorrow. It doesn't explain the precip forecast.

yea its crazy.....looking at the national radar with precip type, there is virtually no northern progress of rain over freezing rain. Looks like cmh would get slammed. As you said, dewpoints are dropping as well.

gotta be a mistake...or they just haven't really fully updated. Then again i swore they were all on crack when that storm last week looked like it was going to drive snow right up into ohio....so who knows.

Latest ruc only gives northern ohio between 0.25 and 0.5 through tomorrow. If this turns out to be mostly sleet with just a hair of ZR, storm could have minimal impacts. Also looks like Detroit gets dry slotted pretty good.

If this keeps, I cannot imagine the number of people without power by tomorrow! My wife says that our cable and internet have been down all day. I hope everyone has finished all of their preps.

Either they see something none of us do, or they're going to bust hard. I think even .25" is way too low if all that precip heading this way falls as ice. 0.50" or greater.

Maybe they think the ZR will fall too hard to accumulate? I don't know, I'm reaching here.

What were the temps during the Kentucky ice storm a few years back? I remember seeing reports of heavy rain during that and the ice was like 1-2" thick. I can't imagine they were that cold... low 20's maybe?

That will help, but it won't wipe out 80% of what falls :lmao:

Especially not on exposed/elevated surfaces. It might help the roads, but the trees... they are going to have major problems. I remember driving up through Bellefontaine the summer after their ice storm in January 2005 and they were just torn to shreds. December 2004 was close, but still not as bad as I saw there.
