tacoman25
Ugh. I hope the long range pattern plays out differently than that. We've had a ridiculously dry fall/winter here on the Front Range, could really use some troughing out this way.
River Card
By the looks of things might be a big ol spring cancel and possible summer of nada for the upper midwest.
gil888
Anybody know anything about very late stratospheric warming events? http://wekuw.met.fu-berlin.de/~Aktuell/strat-www/wdiag/ts.php?plot=temps&alert=1&lng=eng An April stratospheric warming is forecast by both the GFS/ECMWF-- I know what these do in the winter, usually, but in the spring? Is there the same connectivity and breakdown of the polar vortex in the spring? We have had such a positive AO that there is some thought this could preview a negative AO in a few weeks. This is beyond my knowledge base and I was hoping that someone on here could share some useful information.. thanks ahead of time!
skierinvermont
gil I read it's called the 'final' warming when the stratospheric circulation transitions from its winter state to its summer state (zonal wind reverses). The mean date is April 15 but can occur as early as mid March and as late as mid May. Early final warmings tend to have a more -NAO during April than late final warmings. http://www.medclivar...Ayarzaguena.pdf
