SE of Lake Ontario should see some LES Thursday.....I'm just not sure how much. I've been watching this storm to much.

Same here, this storm is a thing of beauty. The Upper level wind pattern is phenomenal, you can't beat a textbook coupled jet like that!

As for Lake Effect, I've been curious about that myself. The V-day storm had quite a bit of Lake Enhancement under somewhat similar circumstances. Low level shear looks intense, so it will be nothing overly organized...just additional heat and moisture flux. Overall I see this storm as a highlight of this winter for sure!

I completely agree..it is very beautiful.... it's going to be the biggest storm we've seen in awhile.

I will tell you this storm has very impressive upper level support from the jet.....I think the primary low will hold on to its energy for awhile...I will be interesting to watch the transfer to the secondary on the coast.

Its a snowgasm..I added thunder to the forecast for tomorrow's event...

THE WARM AND COLD AIR WILL STAGE QUITE A BATTLE...WITH

THE BOUNDARY LAYER THERMAL GRADIENT ORIENTED WEST TO EAST

TIGHTENING AND RESULTING IN EXCEPTIONAL FRONTOGENESIS...BUT

PERPENDICULAR TO THE STRONG V WINDS. THE BATTLE WILL FEATURE

ERUPTIONS OF MOISTURE...RESULTING IN SNOW FALLOUT...AND IN SOME

AREAS...SLEET LIKE PILES OF BUCKSHOT...AND SOME FREEZING RAIN. IN

SNOW AREAS...MAY GET LITTLE MULTIBANDS OF ENHANCED SNOWFALL RATHER

THAN WHAT WE HAVE SEEN IN THE PAST FEW STORMS THIS SEASON WHICH IS

ONE BROAD BAND OF ENHANCED SNOWFALL

LOWER END OF FINAL SNOW TOTALS IN AREAS

THAT SEE MOSTLY SNOW...WILL BE WELL OVER A FOOT...WITH AREAS WITHIN

THE MULTI BANDS AROUND 2 FEET. SOME HINTS OF CSI IN SATURATED

LAYER IN CROSS SECTION ACROSS THE REGION DURING HEAVIEST SNOW

WEDNESDAY. SNOWFALL RATES IN THE ENHANCED BANDS SHOULD BE 2"+ PER

HOUR OR MORE. SNOW RATIOS LOOK TO BE AROUND CLIMO OVER MOST

AREAS...AS THE DENDRITIC GROWTH ZONE IS PREDICTED TO BE QUITE

ELEVATED. SO THE SNOW MAY BE DRY...BUT A BIT MORE DENSE AND HEAVY

THAN THE PAST FEW STORMS.

ALONG THE I-80 CORRIDOR IN PA WHICH SURPRISINGLY MATCHES UP WITH

ALMOST ALL MODEL GUIDANCE AS OF 06Z. 00Z NAM12 CONTS TO BE THE

COLDEST WITH H8 TEMPS AND WUD INDICATE ALL SNOW WHERE A MIX IS

CURRENTLY BEING REPORTED OVR NE OH. THUS, WL CONTINUE WITH THE IDEA

OF FOLLOWING GFS GUIDANCE FOR SHORT TERM DETAILS AS IT SEEMS TO BE

PERFORMING THE BEST THUS FAR ALONG WITH THE HRRR IN THE VERY NEAR

TERM

I'll post here. Start a new job in earnest on Monday, so I decided to chase this thing. Landed in Oneonta, NY because a HS buddy owns a bunch of hotels and his cousin owns the Hampton Inn up here. Got the room for 40 bucks. Seems like a good spot to see 5-7 today and hopefully 10 or so tomorrow.

Moderate snow here now-- closing in on 2 inches.

Cool. You might want to drive around a bit to some of the hilltops to really get the best experiance, if you have the proper vehicle/tires. Route 28 south out of Oneonta toward Delhi (where I am now) is a nice quick way to the higher elevations, but that road is notarious for accidents closing it on days like today and tomorrow. I know the area south of Oneonta real well and north somewhat so if you have any questions ask away.

Rt 23 north out of town towards Morris has some pretty nice change in elevation. An some tricky turns in spots though.

Glad my kid drives to SUNY Oneonta now. Enjoy

I actually measured and its very close to 3 inches already.

I noted the hills outside town are 1500 feet and did some scouting last night. I'm somewhat beat from the drive and their computer system had issues last night when I showed up. Took them 45 minutes to get my room squared away. ( I got here at 1 AM and for some reason it cancelled my room)

Heavy snow now-- great crystal growth, I imagine 15-20 ratio stuff.

Going for a walk.

Huff,

Enjoy! My son and I are in the airport now. Assuming flights are on time, we arrive in Syracuse at 11:10am and in time for the main event. Hoping for 12+".

Keep us posted from your location!

Flying-- why didn't I think of that. Snowman.gifSnowman.gif BTW, you're the coolest Dad ever pulling your son from school for a snow chase.

500 mile drive from LBURG.

Great snow right now-- took a brief walk, not much walking near my hotel.

Dude! I think we met once when you were chasing around Albany NY back several years ago (02/03 winter?), you stopped by my house for a few minutes. If I have you confused w/ someone else, I apologize. Welcome to the 'area'. Good timing.

When I went on the ALB blizzard, I met BristolGeo at the Denny's in Johnson City-- is that you?? Met some locals LEK and I think his name is John who works at the Nuc plant in Oswego back in 07.

Frequent Flyer miles :) We usually drive. Takes us about 9 hours usually but quick trip this time. In today and back out Thursday evening! Hope things are not getting too bad around the airport though. Once I get there it can do anything it wants.

He was already out of school today, but his grades are good so we do pull him out occasionally for some daddy time! I wonder if he will be as nuts as me over the weather when he gets older. HA! If you make the drive north today or tomorrow, let me know. Your welcome to stop by the cabin!

Cool-- thanks. Looking at the data, it seems snow ends by noon tomorrow. Considering they kick ass here removing snow, maybe later on tomorrow evening if travel seems OK.

I drove my little Elantra. The GF had the jeep and it really needs new tires.

I'm telling you. February 1993 redux OL. February 93 redux!

High -17C in Ottawa today. Similar to end of January 1993, although our mean will finish two degrees celcius colder than that year. We have a similar snowpack to what we had at the end of February 93. Oh, the mean temperature in December 1992 was almost identical to December 2010.

nice Huffwx!

not sure if it will reach the MA snowgasm last year, but perhaps you can stick around for some lake effect and a couple more chances at snow in the next few days after this storm. :snowman:
