Coach McGuirk
There is still hope! Where is Ole' Man Winter hiding at? My guess is cold rain this season.
Coach McGuirk
GFS showing flurries from a clipper system on Sunday now. Extrapolating fluid dynamics even with the computer technology these days still really sucks.
Billabong
Just reading online about the Great Cold Blast of February 1899 that put even Florida at -2 zero. Not much before or after that cold blast. I recall it saying that at beginning of the month (Feb), there was an initial shot of cold air that preceded the main event. The whole thing lasted about two weeks , but after it, it returned to normal with no more cold air to follow the rest of the winter. Norfolks record lows for the dates Feb 10 thru feb 14 are brutal. They were 5 degrees on Feb 10, then 8 on Feb 11 then 14, 9 ,3 the next three nights after 7.9 inches of snow fell on Feb 12 and 4.5 inches more on Feb 13. and that was just a glancing blow because the meat of the air mass went right into the panhandle of Florida. It was like the great freeze of January 22 1985 of -3 at Norfolk. No winter before it and no winter after it. Wow , could something like that happen again this year? THERE IS STILL TIME FOR THE GREAT FLIP !! Talking about cold... check out this photo from February 1936 (photo says 1935, but I think it may be a typo... the big freeze happened in 1936). Temperatures in the upper Chesapeake Bay were well below zero, but I can't find much in the way of temperature data from around here. This is taken ontop of the bay in northern Virginia Beach. SoCoWx
Well it's been a while since I posted here, but I will admit I was wrong. Of course, no on could've predicted that things would go so wrong and stay that way. The current pattern sure has been a hard-headed one. This will probably be the first Winter I've seen where not a flake has fallen here locally.
whamcity
Much colder here at the beach than was forecasted. Still not cold enough, however.

DMADKAT
On this day in 1985 it was -3 in Norfolk. We'll never see that again. Oh god , was it ever cold that day! I wrecked both my cars in one accident that morning. I sold my 1972 ford maverick to my friend Tim after driving it for 6 years and I sled into it with my 1969 cadillac on the snow covered roads from the days earlier snowfall. Totaled that poor car. My cadillacs radiator was busted in on my car. Not a very good day for the madkat! Boy the mother load of that air mass came right over virginia. I was reading -7 at my house that morning in Chesapeake!

DMADKAT
Update: Nothing. You can say that again. I have to admit that I have never seen a winter this mild ever. No cold weather at all. NONE! AT LEAST UP TO THIS POINT. Fargo, North Dakota has had warmest first half of winter ever as well, and beat out the old record by 3 degrees . Wow ! Its like the weather is being controlled, when the averages are that huge over that much time. This is surreal indeed. What is this weather gonna bring in the spring/summer season. This sh#t is scaring me, because "WHEN YOU GET WEATHER THAT YOU AIN'T NEVER SEEN BEFORE, MEANS THAT YOU GONNA GET MORE WEATHER THAT YOU AIN'T NEVER SEEN BEFORE !" What is this pattern going to lead us in the dangerous season? (summer) killer droughts / (spring) more 2011 tornadoes / (fall) who knows, and (next winter) bet the house its colder than this year. All this going through my mind as this deep solar minimum has giving way to some strange weather indeed ! My son , Thunder (coastalbecs) is amazed at this winter, and he is 22 years old. I am almost 50, and I am astonished !!!
Coach McGuirk
It was really nice out today like it has been a lot this January. I got a lot of out door painting done in 60 degree weather. Some flowers are already in full bloom.

WeSuck
At least the models are showing Cold air coming south and staying in place for most of the runs with multiple storm threats.
